Is there anyway of hard resetting this NVR via the boards with jumpers etc? if not what is the best way to reset it as we no don't have the password. Any advice would be apreciated?

What's the firmware version on the NVR, as shown by Hikvision's SADP tool?
If you can get your hands on a Hikvision camera running firmware 5.3.0 to 5.4.1 this little trick often works :
Alternatively, you'll likely find a configuration reset command via the serial TTL console, the 4-pin connector like this example :
