Getting the hang of it

I’m looking for advice regarding my 2 years old IPC-HDW5842TP-ZE-S3 camera. It seems to be dead. For a couple of weeks, it was intermittently turning on and off, and now it’s completely dead. I’ve tried different PoE switch ports, a different PoE switch, and different Ethernet cables, but no luck. I was planning to factory reset it and reflash the firmware, but before I could do that, it stopped powering on entirely. There are no LEDs and no network activity at all.

Did you use dielectric grease on the connections?

Whether it is exposed to rain or not, any connection outside can have condensation build up from he heating and cooling of water vapor in the air.

Deoxit does wonders if that was the case.

We have many threads here were someone claims the connection is completely covered and they don't see corrosion and blah blah blah, but when they reluctantly give deoxit a try, low and behold the camera starts working because it removed corrosion that couldn't be seen.

Try disconnecting the POE and power it up with a 12VDC wall wart and see if the camera powers up, the circuitry inside the cam that converts POE to 12VDC and/or other needed internal voltage(s) may be bad.

I’ll try this method once I manage to get the correct power supply.

I’ve tested the camera with a separate power supply and it still won’t power up, so it’s confirmed dead. Since there has been a lot of development in the camera world, I’m looking for recommendations for a new camera. The model mentioned above (IPC-HDW5842TP-ZE-S3) was installed at my main entrance door but is now dead. If the camera is considered unrecoverable, I need a replacement with excellent picture quality, a good built in microphone, a good speaker for reliable two way audio, and suitability for installation at a main entrance door. Budget is not an issue. I was looking at the IPC-HDW3449H-AS-PV-PRO 4MP WizColor TiOC PRO Fixed focal lens, what are your suggestions? Any better options or recommendations?

By all means avoid the IPC-HDW3449H-AS-PV-PRO. I couldn't even resell them at half its value. If you need a decent AIO model, there is nothing at the moment that will suffice. The new T54PRO models suffer with image quality issues (as per other members on the forum) - I myself thinks the built-in onboard Mic sucks. Everyone is hoping that a firmware update might solve the issue, but I doubt it. Years ago when the 5442 models first released, the S1 generation came with a non-functional SmartIR, that has long been resolved in the S3 models, but left the first gen S1 model in the dark.

If you can get a doorbell that supports two-way talk and dedicated camera for viewing purposes, that will be a better option.
If you still feel inclined to get one of the newer AIO models like the Color4-TM / ZE or T54Pro, see if you can get a dedicated mic/speaker setup.

A Ubiquiti G6 Pro turret (albeit expensive and lacks the customization that pros use) is another alternative

Thank you for the advice. It’s very helpful in making the right decision and avoiding the wrong product.
The 4M-TZ is varifocal whereas the 4M-T is fixed lens

The IPC-HDW3449H-AS-PV-PRO does not share the same sensor as the widely known 5442 model which is ultimately why I do not recommend this camera - its a cheaper 1/1.8" sensor, it works decently, but I still use one in tandem with a dedicated 5442 varifocal turret camera.

Also, this thread might help with feedback
