I have 2 PCs running in 2 depots. I have just replaced them with 2 windows 11 machines. and updated to V6 and all running well. the problem I have is this. I took the 2 windows 10 PCs to our main depot to scrap them. however I then needed a file out of one of them, I started them up but when I did all the stored files disappeared off the HHD and its now completely clean as if it has had a format. I tried the other one to check and it is the same. they both have their original licence but I didn't renew the maintenance plan as I put new licence in both window 11 machines.

Any help would be great.

Not sure what you are wanting help with, are you wanting to recover the files that have been wiped off the drives of the old computers or something else? Please clarify your question

I have not seen any reports of this sort and I read almost every post on this forum along with the posts on the official BI forum! I have moved BI and transferred the old data to new computers many times. I have three systems that get refreshed every 3 or 4 years and never encountered the old files being removed unless I purposely deleted them after the files were transferred.

Have you considered taking the computer to a data recovery service if the files are important? Did you have any sort of encryption running on the systems or any AV software that would automatically wipe data if the system was stolen?

Does each PC have 2 HDD's configured as RAID 0?

There has to be something else going on. While BI can be set up to delete older recordings when HD space gets low, it isn't going to format a drive by itself. Any saved video files, clips, etc should still be available on the older machine's hard drive just like any other file - whether you had a valid license for BI or not.

Did the machine ever leave your control? You said you took them to a facility to be scraped. The first thing the facility should do is wipe the drives, so if the computers were not in your possession 100% of the time, I think it is very likely the drives were wiped.

ok first thanks for the help and advice, I have now had time to remove the HHDs from the 2 PCs I will now try get a caddy and mount them on that to see if anything is still on them. There is defo nothing showing on any in Blue Iris or on the PCs when the drives are in them...@Broachoski i am now thinking that one of the users at the site has been f--ing around, like you said something else has happened here. I was lookin for a theft incident we suspected so could be something around that.

also thanks Bruce h ...no 2 x different PCs thanks for helping...
