Want to add my other Dahua NVR5216 to the system, but I cannot remember the password I assigned to it when I initialized and updated it last year. Any ideas how to either recover the password or reset it?

Once again - after all, there was already a discussion about this last year. :)
And there was already some discussion that if the NVR doesn't have an external reset button, it can presumably only be reset by connecting two pins on the motherboard.

That was a different NVR. The NVR I am wanting to use is a NVR5216-16P-4KS2E, so I believe it has the hard reset button. Does resetting the NVR put it back to the original firmware version? The original firmware version was in the 3's and I updated it in steps to version 4

Before going for the reset button, try the local route first: connect a monitor and mouse to the NVR, click Forgot password on the login screen and see what it offers. If you set a reserved email or security questions when you initialized it last year, you can reset the admin password from there without losing any settings. The email option shows a QR code, and scanning it (the DMSS app has a password reset tool for this) gets a security code sent to that reserved email.

If you do end up using the hard reset, plan to redo the channels, recording schedules and network settings, since those get wiped even though the firmware stays. Also worth knowing: cameras the NVR initialized on its PoE ports usually got the same password as the NVR, so if they show up as wrong password after the reset, that is why, and they may need a reset too.
