I have a few old SD49225T-HN cameras, all still working perfectly. But one of them has outdated firmware, dated 9/2/2021:

My other cameras all show firmware dated 7/22/2024:

I went to the Empire Tech download page:

And downloaded the firmware:

But when I install it, I get an error message:

upgrade_fail1.png

I tried using different browsers, including Edge in Internet Explorer mode, I always get the same error.

I don't imagine anyone has any tips?

The other issue could be the PTZ with the 2024 firmware is the S3 chipset version and won't work with the older chipset. I believe it was early 2024 that the chipset changed.

Interesting. Any idea how to see which chipset I have?

Here's Information -> Version:

I don't see any other model or chipset info anywhere, but maybe I'm not looking in the right place.

I assume it’s a zip file download and you extracted the .bin file and used it to update with?

You should be able to compare it to the FW name on the others

I’ve seen a FW update take a few tries. Usually a connection issue.

Nope, just a straight .bin file, unzipped. Full name is:

General_SD-Mao-Rhea_MultiLang_PN_Stream3_IVS_V2.800.0000000.7.R.240722.bin

That matches the System Version of my updated cameras, which is V2.800.0000000.7.R, Build Date: 2024-07-22.

I've tried the update a bunch of times including hardwired (no wifi), no luck.

Interestingly the .bin file is a zip file, if I append the .zip file extension I get these contents:

Also interesting! I can then browse that .zip file, but if I try to actually extract it, I get an error that the archive is corrupt. So I wonder if that .bin file is corrupt... I don't imagine anyone has another location to look for the SD49225T-HN firmware?

I doubt that's it though, I tried to extract the firmware of a few other cameras on that site and none worked. So either they're all corrupt or, more likely I think, they're just not standard zip files and can't be extracted that way (I'm using WinRAR).

Most often I download a .zip file
Inside of it, when extracted, are typically 1-2 .bin files in a folder.

The one with the longer name/date etc .bin is what I use to upload to the camera.
You don't unzip that one

Yup me too. This was a straight link to .bin file though. The page with all the firmwares:

And the direct link to this camera's firmware:

It downloads a single .bin file.

You can try download it again from the website and compare the files to see if both files are the same size. Sometimes you got a partially downloaded file that's not 100% and it might not work.

Good idea. I just did a bunch of downloads, it's always 30,887 kb for me. To make sure it's not a cache issue I tried on another computer too, same.

Just an FYI: I also have an SD49225T-HN here, though it’s no longer in use because its PTZ function suffers from that well-known bug - which appears after years of operation - causing the PTZ mechanism to develop a "mind of its own."

It originally ran on firmware from 2021, and I installed this newer firmware version on it in 2024. I’m also not sure whether there were different versions of the SD49225T-HN, such as an S2 or S3.

What I also find interesting is that when I recently searched for the SD49225T-HN on the German Dahua website again, I found a firmware version dated September 2026 - even though the model reached End-of-Life (EOL) years ago. Apparently, the 2024 firmware contained a security vulnerability serious enough to compel Dahua to release yet another firmware update. If this turns out to be a "bug" on the German Dahua website, the filename really shouldn't contain "SD-Mao-Rhea".

However, since my SD49225T-HN is out of service anyway, I won't be installing or testing that 2026 firmware.

Edit: I also have an SD49225XA-HNR here, and new firmware from August 2026 is now being offered for it on the German Dahua website as well - for both the S2 and S3 models.

An SD-Chen-Leo version is offered there for the S2 and S3 models: DH_SD-Chen-Leo_MultiLang_PN_Stream3_V2.812.0000018.2.R.260827

I haven't used Windows - and therefore haven't used IE - for about ~ 10 years; I've always used Firefox instead. Consequently, I’ve performed all my firmware updates via Firefox, and I’ve never really had any issues doing so. If an error like the one @wrybread experienced occurs during a firmware update, I believe it’s because the firmware version doesn't match the model. That said, I’m obviously not familiar with every single Dahua model and firmware version, :) so it is (theoretically) possible that there are models and firmware versions that can actually only be installed using IE.

Thanks for that! But alas, still failed. Tried the firmware with filename "DH_SD-Mao-Rhea_MultiLang_PN_Stream3_IVS_V2.800.0000000.8.R.260903.bin" from your link.

Oh well, I'll try factory resetting the camera tomorrow and then running the update to see if that helps.

And agreed about Firefox, it works pretty well with this model, but in my experience not fully. So I've found when there's a glitch, break out the old Internet Explorer. Which is always an adventure.

And luckily none of my SD49225T-HN cameras have experienced any of the PTZ bugs. And they're all outside on the shore of the Pacific Ocean, getting soaked in salty fog every night. The build quality is amazing.

Here's the view from the camera I'm trying to update for example:

Yes, finding the exact right firmware version for a specific Dahua model isn't always easy. :)

You can see this with my SD49225XA-HNR. I have the older model - meaning not the S2 or S3 version - so mine still uses the "SD-Prometheus" firmware, whereas the S2 and S3 models use the "SD-Chen-Leo" firmware (likely due to a different chip). There is new firmware from August 2026 available for the S2 and S3 models, but for my older model with the SD-Prometheus firmware, there is only firmware from 2024. :(

Regarding IE: Yes, with browsers like Firefox or Chrome, not all icons or features of the Dahua web GUI are displayed because the specific web plugin - which IE uses, among other things - is missing. However, I’ve never had a problem performing a firmware update using Firefox.

If the PTZ error isn't occurring on your SD49225T-HN model, that’s great. :thumb: Unfortunately, other users - and I - do experience it; the PTZ activates on its own several times a day and moves the lens to a random position. It’s almost as if the PTZ function is resetting itself multiple times a day. It got so annoying for me that I eventually replaced the SD49225T-HN with an SD49225XA-HNR. There is already a lengthy discussion here regarding the SD49225T-HN issue.

In any case, I’m keeping my fingers crossed that you find a suitable, newer firmware version for your SD49225T-HN. :)
