If it's not compatible, it should reject the firmware upload attempt. I see it's listed in hdsecuritystore.com as a DH-DVR7816S-U. Did you try calling them as well? Let us know if it accepts the HCVR7816S firmware, if it does the OP could add it to the support text. :3 -
