I believe all of the common hypervisors out there can't do snapshots if hardware is passed through. I am using pass through for a couple of physical disks in my bi vm and can't utilize snapshots. For me this is not a deal breaker as BI is so easy to stand up and get going if the VM blew up or... -

My recommendation is to not try to do any GPU or pci pass through. It limits the hypervisor choices and adds a lot of complexity that isnt needed. You also generally cant do any snapshots of the vms also when using anything pass-through, which is very nice to have for those oh crap moments... -

Right by the time you buy something more efficient and calculate it out it might be years before you actually get the $$ back from saved electricity usage. I'm in the same boat. My sans is costing me ~$25-30 a month in electricity, but if I bought bigger drives for my server I could get rid of... -

Xeon and power saving can't be used in the same sentence. With HD capacities what they are though a couple of 8 tb drives go a long way for video systems with only a few cameras so off SFF pcs can be a thing. But if you have to buy everything and you already have the server you'd have to... -

They may or may not be. You'd have to read the eula of that manufacturer. There are ways to move the key still to another computer. Or for a small investment and peace of mind you can buy a key. Found some on ebay for under $15... -

Really depends on how many cameras you have and what your expectationsare. I have 9 cameras running in a w11 vm running on a hyper v server and have no issues. It also does open up some additional options for things like snapshots/checkpoints depending which can be handy for backups/restores... -

The replacement is rbc24 I believe, you'll want to cross reference to be sure if you want an all in one drop in module you'll pay more. If you are willing to replace them as individual batteries you can save some $$...- danweber1
