Got the 8R firmware installed on one of my 54Pro's, it is the most challenged at night so will report back with findings. Previously I was never able to install official Dahua firmware, it always rolled back, this has stuck so lets see. -

My thoughts exactly! only to find it is a 54Pro, hence why I requested settings and firmware etc, maybe additional IR from other cameras or illuminator. Not bad at all, I know the guy has what looks like a white t-shirt and fence panels possibly bouncing some light around, even so. -

Long Range LPR Camera?
I recommend the Z12E as @wittaj mentioned in detail above, have a couple working at between 120 and 150 feet, not sure I would want to go too much further, depending on size of plates and if additional IR was involved. Fantastic cameras though, excellent in the daytime and total workhorse... -
Color 4k troubles
Worth closely inspecting the RJ45 connector, bit harder when they have been greased! but wise to do that as mentioned above. On rare occasions I have seen them split causing a bad or intermittent connection. -

That certainly proves the point, you sound knowledgable from a camera lens point of view, which means you likely know the difference between an average zoom compared to a f1.4 prime 35mm or f2.8 400mm etc, totally different ball game. Since they managed to produce the 4K series with the larger sensors, in relative terms, I do not understand why this could not be a longer term strategy. Assuming the sensors are available from Sony or similar, this could be the real 'Pro' line, imagine a 4K size sensor with improved lens... -
