    2025 New Arrivals From EmpireTech

Cool - looking forward to it. Maybe best to have a separate thread(?) I saw your awesome time-lapse of the Cascades (used to live in your neck of the woods) so a side-by-side of that would be cool!

    2025 New Arrivals From EmpireTech

Great to hear - hopefully someone can do a full "shoot-out" comparing the vari-focal (and fixed) against the 5442-S3's, especially in low light.

    2025 New Arrivals From EmpireTech

Thanks for confirming @steve1225 that it doesn't appear sensor technology changed much ... obligatory WTF when modern sport cam/drones/etc. have improved so much - GRRRR! Interesting that adding GigE pushed the power draw up another Watt - I assumed that since 10/100/1000 was so ubiquitous...

    2025 New Arrivals From EmpireTech

GREAT stuff - thanks for posting Spec Sheets - looking forward to actual reviews. Comparing the Vari-Focals Specs of the IPC-Color4M-TZ-Pro versus the 5442 (both 4MP), the "Min Illumination" numbers only changed from 0.0007@F/1.8 to 0.0006@F1/1.2 ... so kinda suggests not much improvement in...

    Dahua WizColor COMING SOON!

Thanks for the updates @EMPIRETECANDY and showing us some real-world examples. Looking forward to (at least) a 3-way shootout ... new versus 5442 and 4K. For the nighttime shots, would love to see some example with no IR. Same exposure (i.e. shutter speed and gain and max aperture) will quickly...

    Dahua WizColor COMING SOON!

Thank you @EMPIRETECANDY ... with bonus points if side-by-side with 5442 in same lighting and using similar settings.

Dahua T54IR-ZE-S3 - wow, what a contrast difference

Have you tried forcing the image settings to be the SAME on both camera's ... and if so, is there still a noticeable difference? If so, that implies something different in the hardware. Otherwise, it sounds like the the algorithms are on the "fence" with the scene ... with the two cameras...

    Dahua WizColor COMING SOON!

Ditto what @CCTVCam said - bummer if not noticeable gain in low light performance. And thanks @EMPIRETECANDY for sharing info as you find out. BTW, when you get the specs, might be helpful to know what the "mounting compatibility" is - i.e. if we have 5442's, will these be a drop-in replacement?

    Dahua WizColor COMING SOON!

As always, great info @steve1225 ... and cool that @EMPIRETECANDY will have them soon .... as I'm hoping to replace some cameras and get some improved low-light capability over the 5442-S3's. BTW, do ALL of the new Dahua camera's come with animal detection? That ends up being pretty nifty/useful.

    Dahua WizColor COMING SOON!

Yea, so frustrating that we haven't seen this technology go into "our" camera's ...

    Dahua WizColor COMING SOON!

Very impressive @steve1225 ... and yes, especially the video stabilization done under challenging conditions.

    Dahua WizColor COMING SOON!

    I like this go-for-it attitude! ;-)

    Dahua WizColor COMING SOON!

Ditto and LOL that in order to get a "better" sensor, you buy a dashcam and cannibalize the sensor.

    Dahua WizColor COMING SOON!

GREAT reporting @steve1225 - sounds like still TBD on the vari-focals, especially WRT sensor technology, sensor size, and lens ... which has some(!) impact on image quality.

    Dahua WizColor COMING SOON!

I appreciate the education @steve1225 and roger all that ... but it seems puzzling that since there are Chinese dashcam manufacturers (and DJI!) getting "high-tech sensors", why haven't any of those vendors expanded into the camera business as it seems like a would not be technically difficult...
