Is the regime in Iran soon to be toast?

You know what would be amazing if Vance and his team can negotiate an agreement where Iran doesn't enrich above 3.67% (far below weapons grade); gets rid of 98% of its stockpile of enriched uranium; has weekly inspections by the IAEA; keeps the straits open without charging anyone; and commits to all of this for at least ten years.

Oh, yeah, that was the Obama Iran deal.

Trump tore up that deal in 2018

For the slow learners, I’m not not and never was an Obama fan.
Simply pointing out the deal that had been in place before Trump tore it up

The 2015 Iran nuclear deal (JCPOA) limited Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for sanctions relief, with strict verification and monitoring measures.

Key

Nuclear Restrictions on Iran:
  • Iran agreed to reduce its enriched uranium stockpile by 98% and limit uranium enrichment to 3.67% for 15 years.

  • Two-thirds of Iran’s centrifuges were to be removed or stored under international supervision, and Iran could only enrich uranium at the Natanz facility.

  • The Fordo underground enrichment sitewas converted into a research and development center, and the Arak heavy-water reactor was redesigned to prevent production of weapons-grade plutonium, with all spent fuel exported.

  • Iran agreed not to pursue plutonium reprocessing and to accept the Additional Protocol, allowing the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) expanded inspection access.

    Verification and Monitoring:
  • The deal established unprecedented inspection rights, enabling IAEA inspectors to access nuclear facilities as needed and monitor compliance.

  • The verification regime was designed to lengthen Iran’s “breakout time” to at least one year, delaying any potential development of a nuclear weapon.

    Sanctions Relief and Economic Incentives:
  • In exchange, the U.S. and other world powers lifted nuclear-related sanctions, unblocking billions of dollars in Iranian assets and allowing Iran access to international markets, particularly in oil and banking.

  • Sanctions would snap back if Iran violated any terms of the agreement, ensuring compliance through a “trigger mechanism”.

    Duration and Sunset Provisions:
  • Certain restrictions, such as limits on centrifuges and enrichment levels, were time-bound, with some provisions expiring after 10–15 years.
  • The deal was intended to temporarily constrain Iran’s nuclear capabilities while providing a framework for long-term monitoring and verification.

    Overall Objective:
  • The JCPOA aimed to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons, block both uranium and plutonium pathways, and provide confidence to the international community that Iran’s nuclear program remained peaceful.

This agreement represented a balance of strict nuclear limitations and economic incentives, with rigorous verification measures designed to ensure Iran’s compliance while gradually reintegrating it into the global economy.

Iran has learned what’s now finally dawning on Americans, including even some Republicans in Congress:
Trump’s will never matches his bluster, and his attempts at intimidation are merely the hallmarks of a weak, insecure, and overcompensating coward.
