There's no reason they couldnt add white LEDs and speaker to the 5442.
As with the inferior sensor 54PRO it could run Color OR IR allowing the user to have the best of both worlds

Save the AI garbage for the 54PRO and those who dont care about image quality

Other than the worthless AI image processing I think we're saying the same thing ;)

The AI target identification is fine

The requirement is so different, some people don't want black and white pics in the night, some people not like LED always at night, but most people want full color at night. So the 54pro is a balance product.

I think there are use-cases for both of them. I'm currently using 54IR and 54PRO, it really depends on your requirements.
Not everyone who is using the cameras report crimes to police. In many cases simple observation and early warning about some movements us more than enough.
For example, in my case when I detect a coyote around the house I make sure my cat is inside :)
Or if I'm seeing a bear on the backyard I make sure my mother in law is inside :)

Sure,
But if image quality isnt a requirement, you can do it with a much cheaper camera
 
A 180° degree equivalant of the 54IR would be nice.

But honestly, with how the things are going in the world; we would be lucky to have current tech/camera's for normal prices.

I think we should all consider ourselves be lucky to have Andy on the forum as he has been very upfront with us regarding pricing and availability
This is the time to only buy what you need. No need to panic-buy
 
Anyway, this week from different friends told me factories in China use DDR meet with the crazy price increase. This is really a crazy world, everyday creat crazy history. All in Micron.
