Hi all,

I’m looking for some insight on a playback bug with my IPC-HDW5442TM-ASE (1st Gen).
Since upgrading to the latest Feb 2025 firmware (V2.840.0000000.30.R, Build: 2025-02-27), I’m getting a consistent 1–2 second "blink" or freeze in DMSS right at the start of any recorded IVS event (also in motion events).
Has anyone else encountered this playback lag with the latest February build?

I’m considering a downgrade to the stable 2023-04-25 (V2.840.0000000.25.R) version, but since my camera now shows Security Baseline V2.3,
I’m concerned the bootloader will block the rollback.
Has anyone successfully downgraded from the 2025 builds yet?

Thanks.

One of the many reasons why most here don't update a working camera unless the release notes specifically state it is fixing a problem we have.

It could be a corrupt install. Did you factory reset the camera, apply the firmware, and factory reset again? If not, maybe the firmware is hung up.

If you do that and the issue still persists, the older firmware should have the files needed for a successful rollback.

Thanks.
No, i haven't done a factory reset before and after upgrade. I will try that, and if not, i will try a rollback with my previous version 2023-04-25.

I'm looking for an older firmware bin file, to be used for downgrade my IP camera ( IPC-HDW5442TM-ASE ),
The older version as seen in my camera (before the upgrade) was this: V2.840.0000000.25.R, Build Date: 2023-04-25
I was looking for the same file name, but as I understood from AI chat, that the relevant file is: DH_IPC-HX5XXX-Volt_MultiLang_PN_Stream3_V2.840.0000000.25.R.230425.bin
It can be found at the link I've mention in my previous message.

So did that fix it?

I ask because the same happens with various versions of SmartPSS/Lite regardless of camera model or FW but it isnt reflected in the downloaded files or the NVR interface.
Downloaded clips are fine
Its a peculiarity of SmartPSS/Lite not the camera.

Perhaps yours is different

You should connect to the camera’s web interface directly to see if the issue persists there.
This will help you determine if the bottleneck is the camera itself or the SmartPSS/Lite software.
In my case, the frame would freeze for a second whenever an IVS alert triggered.
This happened across the web interface, SmartPSS, and DMSS. It was most frustrating when viewing recorded alerts in SmartPSS/DMSS, where the hitching was very obvious.
I’ve mostly solved the freezing in the recordings - it’s now gone (or at least very rare). I still see a slight "blink" or micro-stutter during live IVS alerts, but the recordings are clean.

What worked for me:
  1. Factory Reset: I performed a full factory reset and reconfigured everything from scratch (I did not import an old config file).
  2. Avoided the Downgrade: I stayed on the current firmware for now, but I’m keeping the older version handy just in case.
  3. Encoding Adjustments: I switched from AI-Coding back to H.265 (General). I also lowered the workload by setting the Frame Rate to 20 FPS (with a matching I-Frame), which seems to give the CPU more breathing room.
A couple of questions for you:
  • Are you using the standard SmartPSS or the Lite version?
  • Have you found them to be stable on Windows 11?

I’m well aware that it’s the version of SmartPSS I’m using. As I said, it’s all cameras all models, those from 2017 and those new ones from last month.
It’s not doing it on the NVR, camera interface, or DMSS

I was trying to help you troubleshoot your problem.

Glad you got it fixed
