New property, new security

We've had issues with squatters next door as well as a giant domestic pig breaking into the gate and doing damage, so I want to have evidence and be able to monitor the whole property (2.5 acres). I also wanted to have control over all the data, so I'm going zero-cloud.

I didn't want to get into a brand trap like ubiquiti, plus I wanted access to the best possible optics, so I chose EmpireTech as the cameras to go with. Got 3 of them off Amazon and got a prototype up with Frigate/Home Assistant for object detection. Working great so far! Notifications need tuning though haha.

I decided to put it into a content series where I "smart" my 1880 farmhouse, and security is going to be a big topic. Here's the launch video in case anyone's interested

Hopefully lots of future footage and content will also come from the cameras.

I want to get into LPR eventually, and have a large lot that I own next to the primary house that's wooded, so I'm curious about solutions for each. Happy to be here!

I have been proceeding down that rabbit hole!

Your post on the mp vs focal length makes a ton of sense. You pretty much called me out for grabbing some cameras straight-away that will catch movement but not identify anything meaningful haha.

Actually one of the questions I have immediately for this community is: what are the best low-light performance cameras?

Note, EmpireTecAndy mentioned Dahua will have price increases of about 20% due to the DDR memory prices ( AI demand is killing cheap silicon for us )

So, I would see if you can order what you need before the price increase ( any day now imho )

Great tip - I'll try and get everything spec'd quickly haha.
