Trump administration reportedly freezes all childcare payments to all states

The Department of Health and Human Services is freezing all childcare payments to all states, an official for Donald Trump’s administration told ABC News in a report published Wednesday. States’ funds will be released “only when states prove they are being spent legitimately”.

The report came a day after Jim O’Neill, the HHS deputy secretary, and Alex Adams, an HHS assistant secretary who oversees the Administration for Children and Families (ACF), appeared in a Tuesday evening video message. O’Neill declared that the department had “activated our defend-the-spend system for all ACF childcare payments across America” and would now require “justification, receipt or photo evidence before we make a payment”.

Originally, O’Neill and Adams’s message was interpreted as an announcement that HHS would stop childcare funding in Minnesota, not all 50 states. However, the Associated Press reported late Wednesday that the freeze would apply to every state and that all states would need to provide more documentation about their childcare programs before receiving federal money.

The department did not immediately reply to a Guardian request for comment to clarify the nature of the freeze, but HHS spokesperson Andrew Nixon told ABC News that “it’s the onus of the state to make sure that these funds, these federal dollars, taxpayer dollars, are being used for legitimate purposes”.

Recipients of childcare funding will have to provide HHS with extensive documentation, such as “attendance records, licensing, inspection and monitoring reports, complaints and investigations”, Nixon added.

The changes to US childcare services as part of a response to a viral video, made by a self-described “independent journalist” and rightwing influencer, that purported to discover massive fraud at daycare centers operated by Somali Americans in Minneapolis.

However, other news outlets have not been able to verify the claims made in the video.

Any bets on how long a lib judge overrules this.

Frankly at this point, if you’re not foaming at the mouth pissed off, if you’re still lost in the ridiculous Red/Blue Team kabuki theater, you are part of the problem.

I'll take stupid fake solutions for a lazy society for $500 Alex!

1- it won't work. Finding ways around it will
2- Its another small step towards implementing the architecture of government censorship. "But we're doing it for the Children..."
3- Substituting dumb laws for responsible Parenting just feeds the lazy outsourcing of parent responsibilities

But the violent games they play and music they listen to are fine

Yep, guess we just do nothing...parents use Social Media as a baby sitter, pretty sad...I would say it started with the TV, just sit your kids in front of it and let the TV interact with your kids...

Its not the communication method, its the values and the ability to separate right from wrong instilled in the kid

Before mass communication we had plenty of opportunities to hear stuff from other kids in the schoolyard that didn't agree with what we had been raised to be acceptable or right.
Some kids joined in with the "bad" activity and some didn't.

Its no different now.

The difference is in the values and judgement with which the kid is raised.

I disagree. Kids today have 24/7 crap from Social Media in their face. We did not. It is Totally Different today. Add Social Media Bullying, things that will be online for the rest of their lives. Again, totally different from when we grew up.

This is not a schoolyard issue...

What changed the values and judgements?

You can blame something else for the problem (social media", which is a pretty broad term - like this forum? message boards? email? Instant messaging?)
Or you can place the responsibility where it belongs.
(Not to say some kids will do wrong no matter what, always been that way, but the majority)

So when you ban "social media" (after you get twisted into a pretzel about what exactly that is and exactly which platforms), what will you blame it on next when behaviors don't change?

Or is it OK that behavior doesnt change, you just dont get to hear about it because you shut down "social media" and the only interaction you get is from "approved" sources and Faux News?

Trump says construction of the ‘Triumphal Arch’ to begin in ‘two months’

President Donald Trump said in an interview Wednesday that construction of his long-teased Triumphal Arch is expected to begin “sometime in the next two months.”
That would put the start date ahead of July 4, 2026 — as the White House ramps up preparations for the nation’s 250th anniversary next year.

“It hasn’t started yet. It starts sometime in the next two months. It’ll be great. Everyone loves it,” Trump told POLITICO when reached by phone from Mar-a-Lago. “They love the ballroom too. But they love the Triumphal Arch.”

The proposed structure — modeled loosely on European victory monuments — is one of several high-profile projects Trump has personally championed as part of the semiquincentennial celebrations, a sprawling effort expected to include national and local events across the country.

The president has at times displayed a model of the proposed arch in recent months. There have been plans to build it by the Lincoln Monument, on the other end of a bridge leading to Arlington National Ceremony.

Trump has framed the project as a patriotic landmark meant to honor American history and military service, though critics have raised questions about cost, aesthetics and whether the executive branch has the authority to unilaterally move forward with such construction in Washington.

He has also promoted an Ultimate Fighting Championship event on White House grounds on June 14.

Asked who he would want to fight at the White House UFC match, Trump deferred to UFC President Dana White, a longtime ally, to make the selections. “Well, Dana’s picking them. He’s the best fight picker there is, right?” Trump said. “He’s going to pick all of the top fighters. Going to be all championship matches. It’ll be the best ever, I think. Really incredible.”

Trump said there could be “many matches, like 10,” suggesting the event would be a championship-level showcase rather than a single bout.

In a separate interview with POLITICO last week, Trump spoke about the Republican Party’s plans for the midterms, arguing the election will be about “pricing.” He also cast himself as the final decisionmaker for any peace deal in Russia’s war on Ukraine.

Kids needs to be protected...truthfully I don't care by what means, they just need protection. They are sponges. We have family that let their kids be glued to their iPads. I have seen some of the stuff/crap our grandson has been watching, Evil is very prevalent on all those "Kids" channels. Alot of Woke crap on there. Parents are blind these days. Look at how many were woke up during Covid when they had to stay home and do school online. It sparked a HUGE push for home schooling. Majority of the stuff on Social Media is crap. It is getting worse each day with AI crap out there.
How do you stop Covid? Turn off your TV. This is the same with Social Media. Unplug...

Guess crap is my word of the day, haha

This is not like blaming a gun for someone shooting someone. I get it, what restrictions will be used? What new laws/regulations/etc.?

One of the best things that happened in Texas recently is the ban of cell phones in classrooms. Why do you think they were banned? Are cell phones bad?

Again, by any means, parents need to get a hold of this major issue, FAST...

One of the best things I/we love moving out in the country is, NO, I mean NO cell phones/iPads/game devices/etc. are in the hands of Any kids in any of the local restaurants we have been to. Wow, the kids sit there politely and interact with their parents, they say hi to us and others. It is like the Twilight Zone here. I am sure they are made to sit at the table at home for meals like we had to as kids. They say Yes Sir, No Ma'am.

So what is different with these kids? Yes parents who actually love their kids by restricting the very things that harm them.
