Version 6 Beta

Hi. I'm the sole UI3 developer. I have no plans to do a new interface or a major redesign of UI3. UI3 is a hobby project for me and I'm quite happy with its current state, for the most part.

And you do a Damn good job at it also. Really appreciate all your hard work. UI3 is on all my phones and monitors, and I live by it.

Hi. I had the same problem. Changing Profile from "default" to "main" solved it.

Best regards
Thanks for the response, but I'm not sure what you are referring to. Profiles in Blue Iris are user defined and I don't have a "default" or "main".
Found it, thank you!!

Today's .99 re-release includes H.265 software encoding and direct-to-wire support in UI3-306. H.265 can be enabled either in Blue Iris's streaming profiles or UI3's Streaming Quality profiles, or both.

A few notes about H.265 support.

  1. Direct-to-wire streaming may fail to play because Blue Iris sends the wrong codec string in the video metadata, causing UI3 to use the wrong video decoder. I'd expect that to be fixed in the next BI release.
  2. H.265 is not as widely supported as H.264, and so far I've found a number of browsers will say they support H.265 but then fail to actually play it.

Here's my compatibility matrix so far for H.265 in UI3 based on my own testing:

As BP2008 has already noted (link), Ken updated the V6beta file (detected by a change in the file size).

You can direct download it here:

I've also posted it to the forum's Downloads folder as 5.9.9.99-v6betaR4
The naming mirrors Ken's version nomenclature in the changelog.pdf.

Ken did freshen the changelog PDF in this iteration (see below).

[5.9.9.99 r4] – 2025-11-15

Added
• UI3 support for H.265 including direct to disk

Changed
• Video encoder settings now use a mix of quality and bitrate with the option to favor one or the other

Hi. I'm the sole UI3 developer. I have no plans to do a new interface or a major redesign of UI3. UI3 is a hobby project for me and I'm quite happy with its current state, for the most part. Besides, major changes tend to require changes in the Blue Iris server, which I do not and never have had any more access to than any other customer.

As for the Blue Iris local console, I wouldn't expect any major changes there either. The GUI changes for v6 are mostly done already since 5.9.9.8x as far as I know, and consist mainly of color scheme changes. (same for UI3; it has some color scheme changes that will appear when the Blue Iris version ticks up to 6, and can be previewed via UI Settings > General Settings > Color Theme)

Blue Iris has been essentially a one-man project for its entire 25 year existence and he doesn't have the resources to to major redesigns every few years like Ubiquiti does.

H.265 playback in UI3 may be coming soon, but that is not exactly a feature worth sticking around for. If you're interested in the design and features of Unifi Protect, get Unifi Protect.

I understand, I appreciate your work on UI3 because I wouldn't know what to do without it. I just know people including myself were expecting some sort of UI changes with BI6 aside from color changes, especially with a redesigned mobile app. Additionally I would think UI3, or something like it, should become part of the main project too because I would consider the functionality of UI3 to be a major feature in terms of remote access. Maybe in BI7 I suppose

I was really hoping for a much simpler layout for the desktop UI in v6. Full screen mode would be a great option for windowed mode too. Just the cams on display and right click to change anything.

I'm not sure how much work this would be, but it must be easier than creating a new UI. Windows snap compatibility would also be nice to have, but might not be possible with this type of UI and all the resizing involved?

It already does this:

I'm running and have been for a while 5.9.9.98
I've just updated to 5.9.9.98 and I think there has been a misunderstanding. The option you pointed to gives me full screen, with cams only. I already had this option. I'm looking for an option to have cams only while in windowed mode. Just to clarify, say you size the BI window to take up half of a screen, I would like to make it cams only with no borders and status bar etc. without changing the window size to full screen.

The good news is the UI is now a little darker. I'm not sure about the purple cam bar and outline, but the black profile and cam dropdowns are great. The dark status bar is better too, thanks.

Study the BI help file, there is a way to do this and it's explained in the help....along with many other features. Option has been there for a long time.

Do you mean the desktop frames option? I use this for making individual cams go full screen on a separate screen. If you use frames to make a cam grouping outside of the UI, you would then have to drag the individual frame to another monitor then right click and maximise. You then have to reverse the process to place it back in the group. Quite clunky, compared to a current double click for single cam full screen.

It also means I have to transfer all cams back to the UI window before I can go full screen on the camera group using the UI option Tinman referred to above.

If you mean there is some other method then some sort of reference to the option would be helpful.

This is about as close as you're going to get to what you are asking for.
