HI. I currently have a Dahua N52B3P4 NVR. A few of my cameras are really great nightcolor cameras (N45EJN2). I've been wanting to upgrade the rest of them.
Long story short i just found out about the Luminys migration. Has anyone played with the back-end UI or even the mobile app? Is it better than DMSS? From what i've seen from the few youtube videos, the Luminys UI is VERY bare and basic looking which scares me.

THe other question i have is regarding cameras. I have been seeing ads for the new Eufy S4 Max system which LOOKS awesome with all its cool auto tracking features and things like that. I'm wondering if i can get anything close to that with Dahua/Lum ? My current NVR is kind of sluggish - i can't tell if that is because of the older cameras or just the specs on the NVR itself.

So first, question, is there a better NVR that i should be looking at that has the room to run more of the AI-ish features, tracking, etc? I also am not a fan of the detection / trip wire. I always get alerts that there is a car in my back yard when it's smaller animal. Things like that.
If i do go with Luminys then i am going to have to upgrade everything, correct? So full NVR all new cameras, etc?

Second, as far as my current "nice" cameras (N45EJN2) - i was wanting to upgrade to the 8k - i just go with the N85 instead (or their lum equivilent) ? I was looking at N85EUN2 (night color) ? i assume this means i will need a better NVR and this is where my main problem comes in. Which NVRs should i be looking at? N82B3P ?

Not familiar with the Eufy camera or the Luminys gear. Know of it but haven’t played with it.

On your NVR issue, what’s sluggish?
How many cameras are you running?
It could be more of a network issue

That NVR should handle most of the latest Dahua cameras AI it just doesn’t have AI by recorder.. tripwire is an AI function that actually most prefer over very old fashioned MD. That is controlled in your case by the camera.
NVR upgrades really involve more AI by recorder vs camera which has its ups and downsides, and bandwidth which may be more your problem.

Are there newer more capable cameras and NVRs ? Sure. But you may be fine just replacing or upgrading a few critical cameras to newer AI versions

Your US part numbers can be confusing. Here’s the International Dahua site most of us use to see models
 
Empire tech looks cool the problem is how do you know what you’re getting ? Everything is just inter compatible ? I like the wide view dual camera night vision camera they have but will it work with my NVR? Who knows.
But on that subject does Dahua have any dual camera (wide view) full color night cameras? 8k?

All the models and parts are so confusing.
 
Empiretech is Dahua OEM with a better international selection of cameras than Dahua offered in the US and at better prices. They will work with your Dahua NVR.

Yes the 180T is a dual lens 180 camera.

At the urging of several folks here, I created a thread to show the importance of focal length and how focal length can be more important than megapixels (MP).

I mentioned some of this in the post regarding The Hookup’s latest video demonstrating different cameras, including one sold from a forum favorite here @EMPIRETECANDY , but this post will put it all in one place where we can point a NOOB to. The cameras I am highlighting were purchased from @EMPIRETECANDY

Almost every big box store, consumer grade cameras and all-in-one-box kits come with either 2.8mm or 3.6mm...

Just following back up with everyone on this. I ordered a new NVR from Empiretech and 4x IPC-Color4K-T.
The NVR went bad after a week - powersupply needs to be replaced. One of the cameras sensors is bad. It has almost no low light capabilities.
I am waiitng for a replacement from Empiretech, but this doesn't exactly fill me with confidence. The other problem i have is that the NVR UI is REALLy bad. Font sizes are zoomed in x10. I have to keep my browser on -50% just to be able to do anything. I get that emnpiretech is cheaper, but honestly, it feels like you get what you pay for here.... and this is only my second week!

Anyone else have similar experiences?
 
Wow that sounds like incredibly unfortunate luck.

I have dozens of his cameras and many of my neighbors and friends and family do and they have all worked fine and are going strong.

Doesn't mean some hear haven't got a dud, but every company has a few duds.

Empiretech is literally Dahua without the logo.

Any chance it had been dirty power and fluctuations that blew them?

Was the NVR on a UPS or straight to the wall?

Hear ya on the GUI, but it would be the same issue even with Dahua or the other hundreds of brands they provide devices to.

No actually.

Your font issue is likely due to the display setting

I have had 1 power supply and 1 PoE module go “bad since 2012 using Dahua/Andy equipment (same gear different sticker). Both were due to lightning
 
Sounds like the competition creating bad word of mouth on a forum, People wont really tell you the back story....like " we had a lightning strike nearby"
Or I was arc welding on my 75 Renault and blew the fuse to 1/2 the house.

Let me guess....

Are you a Mac user? Do you have Microsoft Office (Word/Excel etc) installed?

The CSS styles used in the Dahua NVR interface use appropriately selected fonts for Windows, Mac, Android, and iOS. And the interface normally looks OK on these platforms...

The whole thing becomes quite shit show - when you have installed Microsoft Office on a Mac, where Windows fonts are bundled and installed on the Mac.

Suddenly, the entire Dahua NVR interface goes haywire. Some fonts are super small, others super large... It's unclear how to scale this using scaling in web browser.

The 2024 NVRs firmware versions were most susceptible to this problem. The 2025 ones look a bit better, but the problem persists...

Yes to all. that's insane.
I am not a competitor people, please calm down. I AM a mac user.

The actual problem is the way the UI is using the CSS font styles - they are using .rem instead of .em.
Changing the CSS to "em" instead of "rem" solves this.
Maybe it is a mac thing, but that's insane.

Holy crap you are exactly right.
I just booted into windows and its perfect. WTF.

OK so if this is a font issue then this is actually an easy fix. The firmware CSS just needs to call the fonts properly. maybe adding 'helvetica' to the list of fonts.
Alternatively, couldn't i just install the windows fonts manually? Do you know of a fix for this?
