SMD vs IVS

Dahua Camera 1
Motion detection enabled
SMD set to medium
IVS off

Lorex Camera 2
Motion detection disabled
SMD not available
IVS set to Smart Motion

I'm confused why the Lorex firmware only has SM under IVS, so does that mean person or vehicle detection will only work with IVS and not regular motion detection?

IVS is superior to SMD.

For Dahua cam you should use IVS only.

The Lorex cam is the consumer version and they call it different stuff.

IVS is when a target crosses a line or intrusion box.
SMD (uses motion detection) is when a target moves within an area motion detection is set for.

IVS is much better since you can filter by triggering on entry direction.

I get the difference between SMD and IVS, have been using IVS on all my cameras but testing SMD. The Lorex firmware does not have SMD options and when you check IVS it has no intrusion or trip wire options only Smart Motion. It looks like Smart Motion = intrusion, but still no trip wire.

Just trying to figure out the differences on Lorex Firmware to see if I want to keep it or not since, it's missing a few things that Dahua has.

On a side note are there any guides on how best to setup IVS, on one of my cameras I have 8 rules between intrusion and trip wire for kmy porch, but unsure if thats to many and unnecessary or if there is a more efficient way.

Picture?
Sounds like a lot for a porch

In many scenes I run one Tripwire and one perimeter type intrusion zone.

You know you can extend a tripwire beyond just two points right?

Yes some of my trip wire are multiple points, the reason there are many rules is to cover all areas going to the front door and to the side of the house.

But good to know I have to many rules, will try to reduce them.

I’m not saying you do, that’s why I asked about a pic showing them. I don’t know for certain

If it’s imperative to have a lot of diff zones maybe an additional camera is called for?
