Tiny Cam with Amazon fire 11 tablet for hikvision cam?

Using a Hikvision 2CD2087G2 camera through an Ethernet to USB-C adapter to an Amazon fire 11 (13th edition) tablet. I’m just trying to view the live feed on a boat while running at night. I downloaded Tiny cam pro, setup the camera and viewed it on a laptop, but can’t view it on my tablet. Not sure what I am missing or if it’s even possible?

Used factory IP address then changed it to one in the tablets range (17.20.10.XX)
Web port 80
RTSP over TCP (MPEG/H264/H265)
Port RTSP 554


I’ve tried multiple combinations and it shows connected but 0 fps and 0 data, timed out failure. Anyone have any idea? Thanks!

Even though the Fire OS is a specialized version of the Android OS, I'm pretty sure there's more hoops to jump through to get a straight-up Android app like TinyCam to install and work properly on a Fire Tablet. A Google search will reveal such info.

I'd first try VLC for Fire . It's free to download and use from the Amazon app store and should work well on the Fire Table AND allow a RTSP stream from the camera to be viewed without having to jump through those aforementioned hoops. Just choose your Fire tablet or Fire Stick model from the left column.

Then use one of the following URLs in VLC to view the camera's RTSP video stream. You might have to insure that RTSP is enabled and using "Digest" authentication in the camera:

RTSP without Authentication
rtsp:/<IP address of device>:<RTSP port>/Streaming/channels/<channel number><stream number>
NOTE: <stream number> represents main stream (01), or the sub stream (02)

Example:

– get the main stream of the 1st channel

rtsp:/173.200.91.70:554/Streaming/channels/101

– get the sub stream of the 1st channel

rtsp:/173.200.91.70:554/Streaming/channels/102

RTSP with Authentication
rtsp:/<username>:<password>@<IP address of device>:<RTSP port>/Streaming/channels/<channel number><stream number>

Example:

– get the main stream of the 1st channel

rtsp:/Hikvision:[email protected]:554/Streaming/channels/101

– get the sub stream of the 1st channel

rtsp:/Hikvision:[email protected]:554/Streaming/channels/102

NOTE: insure to place 2 "/" after "RTSP:", as forum software won't allow 2 to be displayed consecutively.

Thank you for this reply! I’ve been searching and most are older fire tablets that use tiny cam to view multiple security cameras, I just want to view a direct live feed from one camera (using it as night vision while driving a boat). I will try your suggestions and report back. Thanks again!

Yes, I noticed that and figured that VLC on the Fire dvice would be the simplest; TinyCam Pro would be more suitable if you had to view and/or record several cameras.

BTW, you may already know this but I'll mention anyway for safety's sake: be aware of an inherent delay to what appears on the screen and reality due to video processing and network data speed. It can be a half second or more. This is why vehicle backup cameras are analog, as they introduce no noticeable delay between real time and the viewed image.

A delay in that image can be a detriment when its used to help back up a vehicle.....or dock a boat.

Unfortunately I still couldn’t get it to work. Tried multiple combinations on VLC, says multiple media cannot be played, even though I’m only trying to view one camera. Frustrating!

How do I ensure RTSP is enabled and using digest authentication?

I figured there would be a delay, not sure what would be a better setup for a camera in motion at night though? Appreciate the help!

In VLC are you going to "Media" =>"Open Network Stream" and entering the suggested URL?

Enter the camera's IP address in a browser, access the camera's embedded webGUI, look for those settings under video, network and/or TCP/IP.
Ideally you should use IE (Internet Explorer), 32bit Palemoon or Edge with the IE Tab Extension.

IE is baked into Windows 10 and 11 you just have to enable as follows (courtesy of @wittaj, I think):

How to enable native Internet Explorer in Windows 10 and 11:

1. Open Notepad:
2. Copy then paste the single line of code below into Notepad:
3. CreateObject("InternetExplorer.Application").Visible=true
4. Save as OpenIE.vbs
5. Make sure the the file name ends in .vbs not .txt, If it ends in .txt you must rename to .vbs
6. Create a shortcut to the above file and double-click it anytime you want native Internet Explorer

I’m going to … More then under Streams it says new stream and I enter the URL in there. I don’t see anything that says media. Just video, audio, browse, playlists and more. Think I might be in over my head with this, probably going to end up returning it all soon if I can’t get it working. Frustrating but I guess that’s why the “boat cameras” for nightvision are 10x the price.

Can you recommend a camera and monitor that would be good for night vision in motion that is affordable? Most boat setups are $1200-2500. This setup was $200 and I already had the fire tablet.

VLC for Fire may/must be different that VLC for PC O/Ses likely geared toward media files and not live streams. That's disappointing.
Maybe I'll have some time to try VLC for Fire on a Fire Stick that I have plugged into a 43" not-so-smart TV this weekend and try to stream one of my cams over Wi-Fi to it.

Can you sens a link if available to what you have now so I can recommend something close but will be analog and plugged into a small monitor, all working on 12VDC ?
That way we can get the apples close to the oranges.
