It's been a while since I mounted my PTZ cameras (just over 5 years) and I noticed a lot of rust on the bottom of the pole mount bracket. Is the PFA150 Pole Mount Bracket made from regular steel or is it aluminum like the camera housings?

Specs here say it's made of "SECC" which stands for "Steel Electrolytic Cold Commercial". IOW, it's steel, electro-galvanized with a thin zinc coating.

EDIT 7/7 @ 0558 CDT: You could wire-brush it, wipe off residue and spray with zinc-rich paint.

I figured it was steel but just wanted to confirm. Can't believe it got as rusty as it did in a short 5 years

Yes, it's a pretty thin coat.
Check my edit above.

Looks bad, huh?
Naw, Dahua specs are wrong...that's paint falling off plain old rusty steel and is NOT galvanized (electro-plated with zinc). :headbang:
Maybe a cheaper knock-off?

Your salt air is the likely culprit. Salt air= all bets are off.
I have two of those mounts that have been in use for over 6-7 years. No rust, but no salt air either.
We are 14 miles away from the ocean, so it shouldn't be an issue. None of my other 2 mounts have rusted. Maybe I received a defective mount?

It says powder-coated aluminum and IMO, that ain't aluminum...looks like rust to me.:idk:

What does a magnet say?
It's definitely NOT aluminum. This item was purchased during COVID so I would bet that that has something to do with the poor quality. I need to find an alternative mount as I don't want to go through the task of climbing onto a metal roof in the future to swap it out. In 2 years, I'll be in my 60's and less willing to do so.

I would say that the paint lifted from the metal, and it rusted. The whole bottom of the bracket the paint is peeled away from the metal. Poor prep work prior to paint, if any was done
