Upgrading my machine - P cores and E cores?

Well I never did order that stuff, life got in the way. My machine has taken almost a complete dump, having all sorts of stability issues

Troubleshooting is not worth it on a machine this old and cobbled together

Ordered

  • Intel Core i5-14400 > Replaces i7 8700K
  • 32GB DDR5 6000Mhz > Replaces mismatched 4 x 4GB DDR4
  • 2 x Toshiba Enterprise 16TB to replace 2 old disks - New config will be 2 x 16TB SATA and 2 x 12TB SATA
  • Noctua NH-L9x65 CPU Cooler (Should fit in my 2u chassis) > Replaces Supermicro heatsink that is similar to Intel Stock
  • MSI PRO Z790-P Motherboard > Replaces old Gigabyte B360M D3H

And I already have the following ready for the upgrade

  • Intel 980 500GB NVMe SSD > Replaces old 256GB M.2 SATA
  • Mellanox Connectx-3 10Gb NIC > Replaces Intel i350-T4

The LSI 9207-8i will get ditched entirely, as I think it has problems too

I'm looking at a new intel build, and a lot of the CPU's have P cores and E cores. Does this benefit Blue Iris at all?

I am not using sub streams, and often my CPU get hit 100 when multiple people are live viewing cameras in UI3 and viewing recording at the same time, etc

I like to tinker, so a new build sounds like fun to me. :)
Yeah the i5-4590 was a good machine. But it didn't support my Nvidia GTX1060.
A new intel board will offer support for USB C and other things perhaps like Bluetooth etc,
Sounds like a fun winter project.
get the P type processor.
 
When the new machine is up, I may increase my FPS too, to make playback a bit more smooth

When it rains, it pours. Boot SSD also wearing out! Good job I'm replacing it

Im currently looking for a older Mobo+cpu+ram combo . looking to upgrade my old sim racer's i7 2600K. cpu water cooler should bolt right up. Let me know if your selling :)

The 4th gen DDR Memory available to run on 8700 is much faster than what was available 2600. if you look at only the processor, your not seeing the other benefits.

lemme check the Ebay machine. I'm thinking a 10th Generation intel i5 or i7 with 6 or 12 cores. The Elitedesk has room for a compact graphics card ( if you want) and on " on the motherboard" SSD slot. leaving 2 full 3.5" bays open for storage drives. As you may recall I ran 18-19 on an i5-8500 Elitedesk with 2 drives sharing storage duty and an SSD running Windows. with 24GB ram. that was a 6 core 6 thread machine.
just imagine what a 6 core thread machine would do with 28 cams.
I'd probably try for the i7- 12700 but its $600.

Wow that Pizza looks great!

Just swapped all the parts, much nicer now! Just gotta get all the drivers and such going and then we should be back in business

So far everything appears to be working fine

Getting the I226 2.5Gb Network adapter working in Windows Server was a pain, but got there in the end. I'm using that for my cameras and then a Mellanox ConnectX 3 10Gb NIC as the main NIC. Should make downloading large clips much faster

If I were to start over, I MAY go Windows 11 honestly, just for the better consumer hardware support

I disabled the E-Cores in the BIOS for now, as it seems Server 2019 doesn't really support that too well. Blue Iris I'm sure doesn't do much with them either, the general consensus seems to be to disable them for a server user case

Too much work! Maybe one day

Server 2019 is getting long in the tooth so I could always plan for that next

Finally upgraded from my ancient 5.5.9.6 version of Blue Iris to 5.9.9.14 which is listed as the current stable

What versions are you guys running? Should I go all the way up?
