Motion, Line, intrusion detection, when to use what?

They all seem to offer similar end result. So do you use all 3 together, or just pick one and use it or does one serve a different purpose than other?

They do different things. You can use all 3 together.

Motion detection will lead to the most false positives but will also be the one to be the least likely to miss an incident.

Line crossing is good if you have a choke point, like the end of a drive or path.

I'm beginning to notice that with motion detection. I have all 3 setup and I keep on getting motion detection alerts when there's nothing going on.

Something is going on. Use iVMS and dynamic analysis to find out what to try and minimise it.

You will always get false positives. If you manage to dial them all out, then you will miss an event when you actually need it. Easier to fast-forward through false positives than playback footage which hasn't been recorded.

I noticed that when the bandwidth drops or something, the image on one of my cameras goes pixelated and that triggers a motion alert. Just a thought.

Also now getting alerts when it change between night/day

I used line crossing for about a week, but got lots of false positives whenever the clouds moved away from the sun. The shadow would than 'slowly' move over the line, triggering the event :-(

This is normal, two false positives a day isn't that big a deal though?

Turn the sensitivity down and the threshold up
