Hi all, my father in law asked me to recommend a decent low end budget camera well actually 4 in total last year and I recommended the Dahua sd22204t-gn which I thought was a decent enough ptz but as we have now found out his lighting situation makes this camera absolutely deplorable when it gets dsrk. I have tried to change to WDR I'm the NVR but it never changes when I save it. Would they be fake cameras?

Thanks for the reply, is there absolutely no way of making them pick up extra light, he doesn't want to head down the IR illuminator route and now he's talking about getting new cameras but it's such a shame as they are still very new and he will be gutted.
Fenderman, just another thing the NVR is Dahua too but if I try to change anything on the camera it won't change like if I flip 180 it won't flip, if I try refresh the camera it says failed it's like as if the GUI on the NVR doesn't control anything on the camera other than PTZ I can do that but it won't patrol or scan

Changing it on the nvr should change it on the camera...you can try logging into the camera itself...you may be able to get more help from someone who uses dahua NVR's....but that wont solve your underlying issue...read the wiki and select a more appropriate camera...you likely dont need ptz....see the dahua starlight turrets.
Thanks fenderman, I have being trying to Leah him towards even changing two to fixed turret's the problem is they are all 20ft up and he does have some problems in his estate so he needs to have a look around occasionally, but I will have a deeper look as to why the settings don't change thanks.

Almost always better to use more cameras to cover what you need to see instead of a PTZ. Odds are, when something happens, it will be pointed the wrong way. See this Hitting cameras web pages with a laptop in an NVR with POE
Thank you looney2ns i tried this a few days ago but never thought about going through the Poe port on the NVR this is a very good tip and I am going to try enter the cams this way today. I just changed the IPV4 on the pc to 10.1.0.25 to try get it to see the cams but couldn't so I will try this and report back thank you
IR illuminators are highly recommended even if the camera has IR (those dont as fenderman said), because it moves the light source away from the camera. Also IR illuminators (really ANY illuminators) would be cheaper than buying new cameras, so kind of a win-win if you can talk him into it.
Else you will have to find someone that doesnt need the IR (or has illuminators) and sell those to recoup some money. Sorry for that misstep, cameras come with/without IR and also with/without good night vision -- sounds like your father needed good night vision + built-in IR (due to dark environment). That camera probably wouldn't have been recommended here if you had asked for a recommendation and mentioned it needed to be good in the dark.

Crw030, thank you it is looking that way alright, i did get access to the cameras and have changed the settings and out WDR on to see would it make a difference at all and I got a phone call off him saying they still look the same. Sadly it's looking at at least replacing two of them as the other two pick up some Street mount illumination so they would suffice. I have tried to advice him on just getting some fixed IPs so we will just have to set how he goes
I have the Dahua 2MP mini-dome starlight (IPC-HDBW4231F-E2-M), and without IR it can see "ok" (basically you can see whats going on outside) in very low light, with IR on it can see better but hotspots a little on the driveway and so it washes out faces, but its also so wide-angle ID is tougher than if I just had a crap-ton of cameras on the front of the house. With IR on, it cant see sh*t in rainstorm or snowstorm, or when the random spider/wasp decides to walk across it.
I should really put ALL my cameras on a temporary mount and put them in the driveway, for side-by-side-by-side someday. I really want to try some IR illuminators, and add more cameras but navigating the WAF process and got to steer clear of breaking any HOA rules -- only time (and money) will tell.

Sounds like a good plan, I'm heading down the new camera route myself not because any of mine are broken etc just the lens is too close to what I want to keep secure. I went down the Huisun route 2 years ago (I know they are hated) but the four I bought all still work perfectly without an issue but I'm in a bungalow and I could do with a 2.8mm at the very least. These are all 5.1mm which has so much tunneling its just a little annoying
