Anybody else having rodents (squirrels, rats, etc.) nesting underhood and/or chewing on wiring?

I been getting squirrels chewing into the attic. I been using live traps to get them and depending on how much damage they did combined with my softness that day , varies whether it goes for a drive or for a dive.

Yeah, the little bastages ignored enjoyed hundred of trees, acorns and pine cones for 18 years until Nov. of '24 and decided to come into my attic. Two of 'em climbed 20 feet up up the all brick side of my house to the gable vent at the roof peak and chewed through 2 of the plastic vanes and the nylon pest netting.

I had just begin my colorectal cancer treatment so I hired a rodent specialist. He got one out, the other one died in there but it never smelled, not that I could tell. He said squirrels usually don't if they die naturally because their bodies mummify.

Then his young helper went up a 20 ft. extension ladder and fastened galvanized 1/2" hardware cloth over that gable vent and the other one at the other end of the roof peak which they had not penetrated. Kid did a VERY neat job, looks like it came that way as he bent the screening into a octagonal shape to fit the outside of the gable vent.

I think a rat chewed the original entrance in the plastic around the windshield/dashboard and this small possum managed to find it's way in but evidently couldn't get out. The rats had made a nest under the hood. I'm lucky they didn't chew on the wiring.
