Do we already have a trading thread where we can discuss investments? This one is more for news and stuff like that.

Here's a great idea to make social security run out of money faster!

View attachment 249575

The bill, called the Blue Collar Social Security Fairness Act, would make it so eligible individuals would be able to claim full Social Security retirement benefits starting at age 60.

New Social Security bill would lower retirement age to 60 for some workers

Dig deeper on the issues of public employees and notice some get to retire super early with a Pension.
( one of the main reasons for major potential pension issues )

Retirement eligibility for state workers depends heavily on the specific retirement system, job classification, and hire date, as rules vary significantly across jurisdictions.

Federal Employees (FERS)
Immediate retirement is available at:

  • Age 62 with 5 years of service
  • Age 60 with 20 years of service
  • Minimum Retirement Age (MRA) with 30 years of service
  • MRA with 10 years of service (deferred)
Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS)

  • General employees and teachers: Minimum age 55; Normal Retirement Age 65 (or 57 with 30+ years of service).
  • Elected officials/State executives: Normal Retirement Age is 62 (if enrolled before Jan 1, 2017) or 65 (if enrolled after).
  • Protective occupations: Minimum age 50; Normal Retirement Age is 53 (with 25+ years) or 54 (with less).
Washington PERS Plan 2

  • Vesting: Requires 5 years of service.
  • Full Retirement: Age 65.
  • Early Retirement: As early as age 55 (benefit may be reduced).
General Trends

  • Police/Firefighters: Often qualify earlier, typically around age 50–55 with fewer years of service due to hazardous duty classifications.
  • Teachers/General Staff: Typically require higher ages (60–65) or more years of service (25–30) for unreduced benefits.
  • Health Insurance: Many states require 20–25 years of service for full retiree health coverage, separate from pension vesting.
