Why is BI exporting only part of my 1 hour video?

Hmm, I tried out the latest version (10:30am EST) and successfully converted a few one hour clips from BVR to MP4 without an issue.

Then I tried yet another one hour clip and got the following error message. It plays fine in the BVR player, it just errors out when trying to convert it to an MP4.

All the clips I'm trying to convert come from the same camera and therefore the clips are saved in the same configuration and are one hour clips so not sure why it seems to complain about H.264 and 2560x1140. Basically recordings over a 16 hour period with all clips saved as one hour so 16 total clips.

I actually tried using the BVR Player before posting this morning, AND TOTALLY MISSED this subtle but very cool solution.

It's working great on the exact BVR which exposed the /time/ JPG extraction problem I described in post #13.

Hmm, does it fail immediately or does it happen a while after the export started? Maybe the error message is incorrect and the failure is caused by something different. Does it happen every time you try to export this clip?

Just received the following in an email from Ken...

"... I just updated the [BVR] spec to include [the Blue Iris version] in the header frame."

From the updated spec...

2.2 version (header frame)

On the header frame this field holds the version of Blue Iris that created the file, packed one component per byte, most significant first:

Code: 
0xMMmmppbb  ->  MM.mm.pp.bb
e.g. 0x06010211 = 6.1.2.17

A value of 0 means the file was written by a version that predates this field (Blue Iris < 6.1.0.7); readers MUST treat 0 as “unknown”, not as version 0.

Readers SHOULD NOT gate parse on this value -- the format is identified by structure, not version -- but it is useful for diagnostics and for handling any future version-specific quirks.

Writers other than Blue Iris SHOULD write 0 here rather than impersonating a Blue Iris version.

So going forward, a BVR used for troubleshooting can tell us exactly which BI version created it, rather than having to reconstruct that from dates, logs, etc.

It fails immediately when you click the EXPORT button. I tried a few scenarios of changing from WHOLE CLIP to just a few mins of the beginning, the middle and the end but all attempts immediately fail.

So a little more poking around. May or may not be a clue. But let's say that BVR-A is the problematic file that errors out. After BVR-A errors out, if you try to save a MP4 of BVR-B or BVR-C they also error out just like BVR-A. However, if you close your BVR web player then open a new one then both file BVR-B and BVR-C convert just fine. I even tried clearing out the cache all-time then trying again but that doesn't fix the issue. I have to exit from the BVR web player then open a new one and BVR-B and BVR-C will convert just fine. Don't know what's up with BVR-A that causes this issue but once it errors out then all subsequent files exhibit the same error message until you open a fresh new BVR web player. @bp2008

Very weird. I wonder if this is a bug in the BVR player or if it is a bug in the web browser's video encoder API.
I notice "Copy frames" is "Not possible for this stream", which is puzzling to me. Which video codec does that file use? Can you share one of the affected files by chance? I can probably fix the issue if I have a bvr file that can reproduce it.

Welp, so far I have not found another BVR file that exhibits the error reporting issue. But just to completely baffle everyone including myself here is something that is very odd about this file. As you know, the reason I started this thread is that it would seem that the BVR to MP4 converter was only converting/exporting a small segment of some of my one hour clips instead of the full hour.

Below, see that BI only saved/converted 22 mins of the one hour file. However, note that the file size suggests is a one hour clip. A 22 minute clip should only be about 1GB at most.

It should show something like 00:59:59 or 01:00:00 as the play length but it shows only 22mins. And in fact, if you open the file with Media Player or the legacy Windows Media Player or the legacy Movies & TV Player they all show the entire play time is 22 mins.

If you open this same file with the VLC Media Player it shows the full one hour clip AND it plays the entire one hour clip. Weird, huh?

Well I figured out what the "Copy frames" is "Not possible for this stream" situation came from, and resolved that.

I've pushed a few changes to the BVR-Player-Web app. Now the Export to MP4 panel allows you to select which video track (main or sub stream or both) you'll use for the export. "Both" will almost always force you to re-encode (unless your main and sub stream are the same codec and resolution).

@Sybertiger it would be a good idea to try exporting that problematic bvr clip again. If it fails again, let me know if the error message is any different and please consider sharing the bvr file with me so I can dig into the issue deeper.

I'd like to know if BVR-Player-Web can export fully the clips which Blue Iris could not. And if not, I'd like to fix it so it can :)
 
Well Maesto, you fixed my issue with that problematic clip. It's even reporting the correct clip length. Hooray! Thanks @bp2008 !!
