Has anyone else noticed that the Windows 11 Task Manager CPU Activity task bar icon is not accurate... it seems to overstate CPU activity:

We did something similar for my parents. I'd suggest starting with a few cameras that support two-way audio and mobile notifications—super helpful for quick check-ins. Also, make sure night vision is decent, especially for bedrooms and hallways. Try to place one near the front and back doors too. You don’t need anything too fancy for indoor use—just something reliable and easy to manage remotely.

How does the values presented in the app your added to windows compare to the task manager 'built-in' to windows?

Press Ctrl+Shift+Escape on your keyboard

Hi Hank... I think you may have meant to post this on another thread! :)

Hi @SpacemanSpiff ... it's not an app I added to windows... it's these 2 spots where the task manager 'built-in' to windows shows different values:

I checked two other Windows PCs I have here and the CPU values match on those. I did try to research this before posting here, found some people mentioning this problem, but no fixes for it. :(

This is a known behavior in Windows 11. The taskbar CPU meter is based on a simplified sampling method, so it can overstate short spikes compared to the detailed Performance tab in Task Manager. To minimize discrepancies, you can:
  1. Restart or re-enable the CPU meter from Taskbar settings → Taskbar corner overflow to refresh its sampling.
  2. Ensure your system is up to date, since Microsoft has issued fixes in cumulative updates.
  3. For accurate monitoring, rely on the Performance tab in Task Manager or use Resource Monitor / Performance Monitor for deeper insights.
