Guys any tips on the above? a cam that would properly record speech (altercations, who said what) and street noises in a way that it is indentifiable (gate slamming, trashcans thrown over, power tool being used to damage brush, so stuff that is in connection with problematic neighbors). most of the latter comes thru in my current cams as digital noise, and only 20-30 percent of speech is intelligible, full with digital artifacts.

im in the EU, so that is accessible here and not USA only.

im hoping for an axon bodycam kind of sound quality so nothing hi-fi.

hey thanks for tips :)

You didn't wrote what cams you have...

A few tips:
  • change audio encoding to AAC 64000 (or 32000) both on main and sub stream...
  • decrease Microphone volume to 80% (try different values)... play with Noise Filter (if you have that option)..

Audio quality on modern cams is bad, but you can try those settings to increase it...

what i have: ezviz H3
what i tried thoroughly : imou bullet 3, tapo c320ws
theyre basically the same in sound department, feels like they use the same algo for sound...

sadly i got to the service menu on the H3 only, because i didnt know that is a thing even, before the h3
so idk what service settings the other two has.

the h3 has one volume, nothing else, and it feels more like a noise gate, not a volume.
it has aac 64000 but not tweakable.

ill look at the substream, but i dumbed that down because it is absolutely unclear where that goes. not on the sd card for sure.

would happily buy a more expensive cam than these if it has good sound.

ps: this is a H3 screengrab with settings where numberplate most readable (4fps, 8keyframe, 1/100 shutter, 1080p instead of 2k, and max bitrate thats settable)
