Sadly almost all companies are taking the same path. Ironically, the government has been slowly making changes (and overlooking laws) since the 80's that allowed this to happen. It was the late 90s and early 2000s when it really started taking off (CEO start copying other CEO). They are also creating more C-suite positions than ever before making it so top heavy. Some of which do NOT do anything to actually help the company's business operations (e.g.: Chief Diversity Officer).
