Hi im after some help regarding my swann nvr8- 7285 set up. Ive been unable to use swanview link app since I changed my phone and had been using reolink app as a workaround but recently I can only view cameras on my WiFi only at home
It will not connect via another wifi network or mobile network. The system still functions great so I dont really want to spend more money replacing it. I would be really greatful if someone could offer some advice how to get viewing remotely to work again. I can still view cameras remote on old phone so I know router is talking to nvr ok. Im a newbie at ip cam systems at present.
Any help would be appreciated

Did someone else initially get the NVR connected to the SwannView app on your OLD phone for you?

Have you attempted to install any camera viewing app on your NEW phone to connect to the NVR?

Is your NEW phone Android or iOS and what is the version?

I installed the system and set it up many years ago on my old phone with the supported app at time. Im using reolink app on new phone which did work remotely but they have updated and since then I can only view it at home. I have got apk backup od swannview but my new phone won't install it as its not supported.
It all works properly remotely still on my old phone.
New phone is android 16
Old phone is android 10

Reolink likely changed the P2P (cloud) servers so your remote disconnected....that's why it still works on your LAN.

Swann says the AlwaysSafe app for Android might work with your older NVR...have you tried that? Be sure to delete any and all current apps on your new phone before installing the new app and scanning the NVR's QR code or entering its serial number. In the NVR under the network settings the P2P should say "online' if enabled and the QR code/serial number is accepted.

If the AlwaysSafe app doesn't work, Swann says to try the HomeSafe View app.

Yeh ive tried homemade with no luck and always safe not available on my android version
If your NVR is from 2014 like it's user manual you may have to consider replacing it.

This usually happens because the old SwannView cloud service those recorders relied on is no longer supported on newer phones, so it works on the old device but fails externally on anything new. Since you can see it on local WiFi, the NVR itself is fine, you just lost the remote access method. Your best shot is to bypass Swann’s cloud completely and connect directly. Log into the NVR from a PC on your home network, go into Network settings, make sure DHCP is off and give it a fixed local IP, then check if there is an option for ONVIF or manual port settings. After that, set up port forwarding in your router for the HTTP and server ports the NVR uses, then use a generic IP camera viewer app that supports manual IP connection instead of SwannView. If ONVIF is available, enable it and create a new user just for that, many of these Swann units are rebranded Hikvision so they will work this way even though Swann never documented it. If ONVIF is missing, remote viewing without replacing hardware is unfortunately very limited.

Ouch!
Letting the entire internet in to an NVR with old firmware risks it and possibly the LAN is on being compromised.
That's poor advice.
Much safer to check out the many helpful guides here on setting up a secure VPN to enable remote access.
