TL;DR - MY ZE is sharper than MY AS at the same fov (zoom, distance, whatever). Has anyone else noticed this?

Unfortunately no I do not have any pictures of what I'm describing, I can get some if required.
Essentially I had the two cameras side by side and I noticed that image on the ZE is noticably sharper despite identical settings and environment. Now of course I'm realizing that it's likely the larger (possibly higher quality ) lens on the ZE is allowing the image to be sharper (like with DSLR cameras ). My initial thought however was that the AS appeared to be slightly out of focus— an effect I could easily reproduce on the ZE by barely adjusting the focus. Maybe my AS wasn't focused properly , the ZE lens is just better , or my environment didn't match the environment used to set the focus in the factory.

Was just wondering if anyone else noticed this or if I was simply unlucky, stupid , or both. Thanks

Without images, hard to determine if it is in your mind perceived differences or real LOL.

A few things I can tell you though.

We have seen two cameras come from the same lot purchased at the same time and be set side-by-side and the settings on each are different to get the perceived same image. So it wouldn't surprise me if two different cameras, even from same series, need different settings to create an "identical" looking image.

The fixed cams are not infinity focus, although some do better than others and some have a definite ideal distance where focus is the best.

The varifocal will usually win the focus contest since the focus is adjustable. And some field of views it is more noticeable than others.

Some cameras come from the factory slightly out of focus.

While not for that particular camera, here are many threads explaining how to open up the camera and adjust the focus or change the focal length of the lens (obviously you skip that part LOL):

Fixing focus on IPC-COLOR4K-X
I bought a refurbished IPC-COLOR4K-X from Andy last year and its focus was got great. Then for some reason it got worse over time. So I took it apart today and was able to fix the focus easily. 1. Take off front panel of camera to expose 4 screws. 2. Unscrew 4 screws to open camera case. 3...

Successful change of 1/3" Dahua lens from 2.8mm to 25mm
So, like a lot of people who buy kits, I was initially concerned with seeing my entire property and surrounding area rather than focusing on the important areas. Having found this forum, I was quickly concerned that I had badly spent my money on cameras that weren't going to be able to help me...

Dahua Lens Replacement
Hi, I have a newly purchased Dahua IPC-HDW2431TP-AS-S2 camera and wanted to know if it is possible to change the lens from a 3.6mm to a 2.8mm. Basically, I am testing this Dahua camera to replace a Hikvision IPC-T120-D 2.8mm camera. The image quality on the Dahua is much better but...

This post was for a Hikvision, but the steps are pretty similar, it is a matter of taking off the cover, xacto knife scraping off the glue on the thread and turn in small increments and watch it on a screen.

2CD2387G2-LSU/LU Tear down and refocus (with pictures)
I recently purchased a 2CD2387G2 8MP ColorVu to replace a 2386G2 monitoring the driveway and front yard of my home. After conducting some side-by-side testing with the existing 2CD2386G2 I came to the conclusion the new 2CD2387G2 was not as well focused. Images from the 2CD2387G2 were...
