Spider webs - what can be done?

At least three of my 9 cameras get regularily spider webs which decrease image quality and trigger events. Any ideas on how to keep spiders away from the cameras?

Use external IR blasters and turn off the camera IR or periodically spray bug repellant around the cameras. I do this once or twice a year and seems to keep them away.

Spiders seem to be attracted to the IR light. By using external IR emitters, the camera hopefully won't be blocked by webs that inevitably will be built around the emitter.

Hi all.

I’m a CCTV installer in Ireland and I’ve been dealing with this problem for years. Spider webs are especially annoying at night because the IR reflects from the web and can make the image almost useless.


I tried different sprays and repellents, but outdoors they never worked well for me, especially after rain.


So I eventually decided to build my own solution — a small automatic device that periodically removes spider webs from in front of the camera. It doesn’t touch the camera lens.


I’ve called it Spider Wiper and I’m currently starting to test it on real CCTV installations.
