Getting the hang of it

A few days ago, I replaced Blue Iris with a WizMind NVR. I’m still working on setting up a few things. I don’t want to change or disturb the camera settings, since I already have tripwire alerts recording to the microSD card and everything related to the cameras configured there. With Blue Iris, the camera settings were never affected, but I’ve noticed that with the Dahua NVR, the camera settings can be altered if I make changes on the NVR side. What I want is to set up continuous recording and tripwire alerts on the NVR hard drives while keeping the tripwire alerts working the same way they do on the SD cards. What are the dos and don’ts when setting this up, so I don’t accidentally mess up my camera settings?

My second question is monitor/TV through the NVR the 12MP camera feeds don’t fill the display slots there are black bars on the left and right sides. Is there a way to keep the main stream for recording (so I don’t lose footage quality) but use the sub stream or another setting for live view so the image fits better in the channel slot? Can Dahua NVRs manage this scaling issue in live view (4:3 ratio) for a 12MP camera without affecting recording quality?

NVR is for storing videos as they are, not rescaling before store..
on all NVR interfaces (web, HDMI) you have option to change display ratio scale (right mouse click menu or some icons around viewing area).
you can fill/rescale 4:3 to 16:9..

My cameras are already set up with IVS rules, and they record the alerts to the microSD card. How do I make those same alerts also record on my NVR while still keeping the SD card recording? Currently, my camera is recording Tripwire alerts to its microSD card, but I also want the same IVS rules to trigger recording on the NVR. Which boxes/options should I tick in the NVR settings to make sure these events are getting recorded to NVR as well? Can I use the existing AI by Camera rules for this, or do I need to create a new set of IVS rules using “AI by Recorder” in order for the alerts to be recorded on the NVR?

Is it possible to use AI by Camera to record Tripwire alerts to both the camera’s SD card and the NVR, while at the same time using AI by Recorder for a different function like Face Detection on same camera channel?

Best practice is to make EVERY camera setting in the camera GUI and not in the NVR GUI.

So if your cameras are set up like you want them, then don't touch those settings in the NVR GUI.

The only settings you make in the NVR GUI are as it relates to recording and alerts. Or if in your case you want to add a layer of AI to what the camera is already doing.

Ok, the question is how do I record those tripwire recordings to NVR and keep them on sd card as well? While playing with those settings I’m having trouble with my camera image settings when testing IVS rules through the NVR. Whenever I test under the AI menu on the NVR, my camera’s image automatically switches into what looks like day mode (its midnight here), and the picture goes very dark. As soon as I log directly into the camera’s web GUI, the picture returns to normal with my customized settings. This happens almost every time I test. Am I doing something wrong in the setup? Is the NVR overriding my camera profiles when testing AI rules?

What do you mean by "test"?

Set the rules on the camera only as previously mentioned.

You can "View" on the NVR but dont touch the settings for IVS on the NVR. You can use AI search on the NVR but dont touch the IVS settings on the NVR.
Anything you do to IVS settings on the NVR will potentially change what you did on the camera.

The camera goes to Day becasue you're setting it on the NVR which is set to DAY

As far as recording to the NVR, simply go to "Storage" on the NVR and set the Schedule and Record mode (two tabs under storage) for EACH CHANNEL you want to record. You dont have to do a damn thing otherwise. If you're recording to the SD card on the camera already, it will continue
