Ripping my hair out - CAMERA STUCK ON DAY PROFILE

Hey all,

So I bought my dad a DH-SDT3E410-8P-MB-A-PV1 for his birthday so he can keep track of his dog in the backyard. It has two channels -- a panoramic camera, and a PTZ 'detail' camera.

First thing I did was dial in the image/encode settings for both the 'day' and 'night' profiles on both of the camera channels.
Second thing I did was add both channels to BI.

Now that I'm working on getting the camera to switch between the two profiles, I'm realizing that I can't even switch between the two profiles manually!

Say for example I want to force the 'night' profile. I select the 'Channel' (camera), and under 'profile' I select 'night'. The camera changes accordingly. Ok great!
So now I hit 'apply', and considering I don't have any scheduling settings enabled, it should now apply that profile 24/7, correct?

Nope! As soon as I select the 'detail' (PTZ) channel, or any other tab, or literally do anything, the camera goes back into 'day' mode again!
This happens on EITHER CHANNEL. So if I manually try and change it on the PTZ channel, it immediately reverts back to 'day' mode whenever I click out of it after I click 'apply'.

I'm running the latest firmware. What the heck do I have to do to gain some sort of control over this thing??

The Dahua utility won't work with the new GUI.

To set it up with BI to do it, part of the script writing is to force a profile 24/7 for day when you want day profile and then a script to force 24/7 for night for night profile.

I just said ef it and set up the schedule LOL because each one of these cameras with the new GUI has a slightly different API based on the camera and it wasn't worth it to me to play with APIs until I figured it out for each model.

And not many have this camera yet so HTF knows what the APIs may be for this one to set it up in BI to change profiles.

Unlike the older GUI, with this one you can set it by month, but the best you can do is get close.

I took the average sunrise and sunset for each month and used that as the time for the day/night profile switch for each month.

So it may be off 10-15min either side of the average, but with a range for the shutter speed it isn't as "off" as one would think.

That sounds like a big pain in the ass tbh.
Even if I make a schedule based on the average rise/set times, what happens when it's a month where daylight savings starts/ends? You're telling me I'll have to remember twice a year to log on and manually adjust the schedule on each of these cameras?

Also lets say I make a schedule in the Dahua WebUI. Will BI automatically detect when the camera changes profiles and apply the relevant profile to BI? Or do I also have to apply the exact same schedule to BI?

Again the "off" due to daylight savings or whatever isn't as bad as you think. I do not go in and adjust mine and my cameras are fine.

Making the schedule in the camera GUI has zero impact on profiles in BI. You would still need to make day and night profiles in BI.

My BI day/night profile is based on sunrise/sunset and is independent of profiles set in the camera GUI.

Wait a minute...

So the camera itself could go into 'night' mode, but the actual profile change in BI could happen up to an hour later?

Where I live, daylights savings means that the sun could set up to 2 hours later than the 'regular' time set in the schedule.

How am I supposed to have all my BI night settings be applied to the 'night' image settings of the camera, if the 'night' profile is not active, and same for the 'day'?
This is absurd.
Are you telling me this is how you and everyone else here run their cameras?
How is this a viable solution?

Like I said, with the newer systems you may find you can get by with one profile.

Or take the time to figure out the API for your particular camera.

Maybe one of the APIs for another camera works for this one or maybe it doesn't. If one works then it is easy to set it up in BI.

I had the same frustration as you did initially and after I got over that and realized it didn't matter with the newer sensors as much as the older ones, everything is fine. And this is the experience of most here.

Give it a try or give up and go to Ring lol.

YMMV.

The entire reason I noticed the fact that it was locked the day mode in the first place is because the day profile looks like ass at night, so no, I absolutely cannot 'get by' with one profile. I actually can't imagine anyone could, unless they just leave the thing on auto exposure and have a terrible image in both day and night.

It absolutely does matter, especially in urban environments with constantly changing lighting environments, weather, etc.

This will be the last Dahua camera I will ever buy, guaranteed. Now until someone decides to make some sort of brute force utility forcing this camera to gain a feature it should've had from the start, I'm consigned to constantly adjust the schedule NOT ONLY WITHIN THE WEB UI itself -- but also BI for these cameras.

I hope every Dahua engineer gets turbo herpes and maggots infest their loins.

I assure you I am not on auto exposure and I am in an urban setting.

Try having night profile kick in early with a range of a shutter and you may be surprised. You would be surprised how well 0-8ms or 0-16ms works.

Does the camera not have a DST setting?

I use Dahua NVRs which also have DST so it makes that switch by itself. Using the monthly schedule as @wittaj suggests works well for me.

I dont own that specific camera
