NVRs Hikvision - pre and post record

Hi guys,
I'm new in this forum and sorry for my bad english. I have a question about NVRs Hikvision. As far as I know, in NVR Hikvision sets up to detect motion "pre" and "post record. As I understand it sets how many seconds before and after the motion detection NVR is to start and end recording. Does this recording mean that the NVR records one file until the motion stops and finishes recording it only then (+ these few seconds that will be set in the "post record") or record the file in the accumulated time "pre" and "post record" "(for example I will set 10 seconds in both cases, so the recording lasts only 20 seconds in total) and if the move continues, it simply creates another file with the same duration?

Not 100% sure - but it looks like it records for as long as there is motion.
