Hi, I recently joined this group looking for help in buying the right system for my home.

1. I have ok exterior lighting on the front of the home, however the backyard is pretty dark at night.

2. I ran 8 homeruns of CAT5E from my soffits to my basement where I would like to pace my NVR.

3. I’m looking for cover the front door, front yard/ driveway, along sides of my house and backyard, as well inside my garage. 8 locations total.

4. I’d like to be able for my wife and I to view the cameras from our phones as well.

Any suggestions on cameras make and model as well as NVR and whatever software (user friendly) may be needed. Best place to buy would be helpful.

What type of mounting box can I use? The soffits are getting replaced

Welcome @Buckeye fan

Placement of the cameras is important, so now is a great time to get 1-2 4MP varifocal IP PoE cameras and setup a test rig and start playing around with placement.

Sometimes 1-2 feet move from your original placement can make a big difference. So do double check on your initial guesses for placement.

here's the placements I would consider for starters ..

The one by the front door is a facelevel one .. I probably would add another to watch the package drop area, or get a "boobie" camera ( dual lens )
