Hello all.

I have an array of Amcrest and HikVision cameras in my cam setup and am running BI and recently added a Sunba 405-d20x-4k into the mix. I have several questions and am talking with tech support at Sunba which is slow going and wanted to post to the group to get feedback from other users as I suspect my questions are not unique.

The first 2 questions I would like to start with are:

1. Can you configure the camera by accessing it from its ip address:80 or ip address:8899 or other port?
When I try I get the message that I have to install a videoplay add on. I am using Firefox browser primarily and also tried Edge with the same result. I am not comfortable with using addons or other software to configure the cameras because I feel its a security risk, never quite sure what else may get installed, and am sure many of you who use Sunba and tried to use their software have run into AV and windows messages flagging the software as potentially shady. With any of my other cameras I can log into the cameras and configure as required without any external applications and want to achieve the same result here.

2. How should I configure the Sunba and BI for optimal performance?
I found a thread thats about 5 years old (set i-frames to match FPS) which talks about frame rates and i-frames to match the camera FPS to get a 1.00 key setting but I can not get the key setting to 1.00, right now it sits at 0.17 with about 400.0 kb/s. For the moment I am going to assume the lack luster video quality and FPS/key are related and hope there are some suggestions on how I can get all the settings aligned (BI and camera) so that image quality is greatly improved and performance optimized.

FYI: When I setup the cam into BI, I initially used the Sunba option from the Make/Model drop downs in the Video tab, but when I pressed Find/Inspect it defaulted to Generic/Onvif.

Gladly willing to provide what ever info needed to aid in the discussion.

Thank you in advance for your help and wisdom.

Those plug-ins usually only work with Internet Explorer. IE is still available and is built in to windows. Do a search here for how to find it.

You have to decide whether to accept that risk or switch cameras. Many features may not be available otherwise. If you use virustotal you will find it is safe.

Or do as many here and use an old computer that is only used to set the camera up.

Some cameras simply cannot be setup to be optimal with BI. Sadly Sunba is one of them. I used to have the Sunba PTZ as well. The algorithm is designed to favor bright static images and lower bitrates, and that is the cause of your issues.

BI simply takes the video that is provided to it. The FPS/key has little to do with video quality and is more for how BI uses its internal motion detection.

Appreciate your feedback.

I am not sure if I will switch this out yet. The original camera had a wider focal length 2.7mm vs the 4.3 to 94mm of the Sunba which actually makes area previously visible no longer so. The PTZ is a nice feature and the $150 price point was wroth giving it a shot.

I am not 100% happy with the image quality "yet" but would like to get input on how to best set up the cam and BI and see what the end result is. Optimal to me is the best that can be excpeted given existing conditions, so if can get to what optimal looks like with the cam and BI I would be in a better position to decide if I am going to leave it or go back to what I had before.

I used to work with someone who had BI and 1 or more Sunba's and he showed me the video streams and they looked good, not sure which cams he had but based on your reply sounds like it doesnt really matter with Sunba. I am going to try and rerach out to get specifics.

Do you know the device config and BI settings that I should try to squeeze the best pic and performance out of this camera?

Any Ideas to improve the FPS/key numbers?

Thank you.

Again, the video quality in BI is solely a result of what is fed to it. You can't improve the video quality in BI over what it is being fed. If it is being fed a crappy feed, then it will show a crappy video.

You would need to go into the camera GUI and change bitrate to as high as it goes, H264, and CBR. I suspect by default the camera is a low bit rate, H265 and VBR and that makes for poor video quality.

And some of these options may not be made available to you without installing the camera plug-in.

The Key number is a ratio of FPS to iframes. So FPS of 15 and iframes of 15 would be a key of 1.00

In the past the KEY number mattered a lot more. If you are using the actual camera to do the motion triggering in BI then it doesn't really matter. But if you want BI to do the motion triggering, then FPS and iframes should match or you will miss triggers.

It has been awhile since I had my Sunba but you either can't adjust iframes or the camera overrides what you put in.

But none of this will fix the camera having too many MP for the sensor in it and won't hold key settings like faster shutter speed at night to minimize blur because the camera will override user input settings and will favor a bright image at the expense of causing blur with motion.
