I've been thinking about making the jump from my Synology to BI for a very long time. But just started to get serious about it. Most of what I read was to look for outlet deals. But I never saw anything that really stood out.

Came across this on slickdeaks today for $400.

Thoughts for this on a small 6 camera, 1080@30fps setup? I'd like to keep doing h.265 encoding also for space. Full time run, but tags motion.

Acer Desktop Computer Aspire T TC-865-NESelecti5 Intel Core i5 8th Gen 8400 (2.80 GHz) 8 GB DDR4 1 TB HDD Intel UHD Graphics 630 Windows 10 Home 64-Bit - Newegg.com

The PC looks a little expensive. Look on USED PC on ebay
. A min of 8 GB memory
. A good idea is an 128 GB SSD
. A 4 TB purple drive.

You do not need to record at 30 FPS. The max you need for security is 15 FPS.

Look at the WIKI. Choosing Hardware for Blue Iris | IP Cam Talk

I guess I didn't think it was all that bad based on the CPU included being an 8400. I wasn't really finding any refurbished i5 6500 optiplex/elite desk much outside that price range really.
