Hi
I'm slowly building my system with Dahua based cameras, and I'm trying to narrow down my choices for NVR.

I do not need POE because I have more than enough ports on a 24 port POE switch.

I also prefer not to go the BI route, and rather have dedicated hardware (less features, less that can go wrong, i prefer the discussion not focusing on why I should change my mind...)

The primary purpose of the NVR is to record, and to feed the streams to a monitor that can be used for playback as well.

No need for fancy features, but it should be extremely good at what it does, and have wide compatibility for decoding and different camera brands.

It will be in a offline environment .

Thanks

Andy has two under $200, I even used the white one at bottom for a couple of years. Nothing fancy, just worked.
Biggest issue between those two and the others is AI capabilities and horsepower (incoming bandwidth)

I'm wondering if by buying an NVR with POE ports I'm essentially paying for a feature I won't use, and can instead pay for other features I may find more useful.

Up to you, they are more versatile. You don't have to use them, you can still run everything on an external switch, or run some external and some on the built-in PoE. I have a mixture myself.
It also effectively provides a built-in Vlan as well

But you're not going to find it to be "choose a feature pay this price". The ones with built-in PoE are the same as those in the same series that aren't. The difference is simply the ports
