I would like your opinion on where to install cameras on this lake house (lake view house). At the moment the cams will be battery powered, for an instant install and 130 degree FOV… but later, after more planning, I would like to move forward with a POE-based system. Right now, we just have a T-Mobile Hotspot giving is internet via LTE (?) not 5G. Shockingly this thing works pretty well with 10 devices going at once. Regular fiber internet would cost more than 3 times more ($30 to $100 per month).
Deck Coverage: I will start with at least one camera covering this deck and I’m thinking the location would be one of the three locations shown below. This is the most important area to cover at the moment. We lost a cat and want to see if he returns and will probably be on the deck at some point and he will likely be in the window near the deck too. So placement options as I see it seems to be: E, F or G. Thoughts?
Now I do have two more battery powered cams (3- in total) that I could use and in the future the number of POE cams could be more than three…. In order of priority what other cam placements would you suggest?
Possible camera placement locations are:
Deck Possibilities (Critical location, I assume one of these three)
E-Deck Cam (This might be the best).
F-Deck Cam (This might be the second-best). Might be able to see the whole deck with 130 degree FOV.
G-Deck Cam (only benefit might be that you would probably see a car in the driveway but not optimal)
So. I’m thinking just one cam on the deck…. So, E or F or G.
Other Possibly Useful locations (??)
A-Front Cam (SE Corner)
B-Front Cam (SW Corner)
C-DriveWay Cam (SW Corner)*
D-DriveWay Cam (SW Corner)*
Cam C & D are the same cam….. I messed up the photo markup….
Also, at this time, I just want to see what’s going on in general…. Like, was my cat attacked by a coyote on the deck…. Was he chased off…? Later, I will think more about choke points and wanting to ID people at certain distances…. I’m aware of DORI and would be happy to hear your thoughts that apply now and that could be applicable to a future upgrade of this same house. For now, we just want some coverage…. We want some idea about what’s going on out there.
