IPC-T54IR-AS-S3 vs IPC-B54IR-ZE-S3 - IR night performance

I'm looking to add another IR camera that will be set to a short focal length (2.7mm on the ZE or the 2.8mm AS) so either of the subject cameras will work for me. The specs state that the ZE has 4 IR lights vs 2 on the AS. Despite the smaller 1.8 aperture will the ZE perform better at close range at night than the AS with only 2 IR lights? There is close to zero chance I'll need the zoom function of the ZE camera.

Just realized I was comparing the bullet ZE to the turret AS. The question still stands for the bullet versions of the cameras assuming the IPC-B54IR-AS-S3 will come back in stock.

The bullet having 2 more IR lights than the turret will have an advantage at night.

If it is close range, then it probably doesn't matter as much.

Many folks say the fixed cam will have a slightly better image than the varifocal for the same field of view.

Yes, the AS is better at night than the ZE, but only slightly. However, there is a significant difference between the bullet and turret at night, since the bullet has much stronger IR and does not have the center hotspot of IR like the turret. One thing I dislike about the T54IR-AS-S3 is the mount. All my other turret cams I can swap out without having to change the mount, but not with the AS-S3. Dahua shouldn't have changed the mount for that camera.

I'm evaluating a B54IR-AS-S3 right now. My scene requires near and far IR illumination so I am running all 4 LEDs and it does perform better at lighting the distant background (up to 75 feet) than a IPC-T54IR-ZE-S3, as expected.

I have an object at the center of the frame that is about 15-20 feet away on which I do have a hotspot. Since the angle is not ideal, I am willing to live with the hotspot, but time will tell. I'm very happy with 541/5442s for my night time lack of ambient light scenes.

I forgot to mention that I am testing fully zoomed out to 2.7/2.8 mm. The bullet does allow for running near IR, far IR, or both. I also need to be able to Identify at close range. I haven't tested settings yet for the latter but I have no doubt that these are the right cameras for the job.

Sounds good. The bullets are great, if you don't mind the appearance, compared to the turrets. I just ordered a B54IR-ZE-S3 yesterday, as I assume that model of camera will start to disappear soon. Nothing beats the B54IR-Z4E-S3 for nighttime illumination, but it would be a bit long where I need it; hence the need for the ZE.
