Hello Installers,
A while ago I completed an camera system install for a friend of mine. 8 IP cameras setup among 4 buildings on his property. I installed many cameras on projects before, but I admit I was a little new at performing this type of installation. Well, everything was good for a few months. Then one day the video of the rear of the property went out, and after troubleshooting the system, I discovered that it may have been affected by transient voltages from a nearby lightning strike. I am now upgrading the system to be more lightning proof. I have added two surge protection devices (SPD) and grounding rod, to the down hill area of the property. Now I am working on the area in the higher ground of the property. I plan to replace the existing buried cable with shielded cabling, and add another SPD and grounding rod. I have done some research about grounding and my question is pertaining to bonding to a single point.....the second ground rod will be roughly 200 ft away from the first rod, how is the best way to connect these rods or can they stay unbonded from each other because of the distance and if I do that, should I worry about ground loops? I have included a drawing to help you understand the layout. I would like to find the best solution to help prevent the damaging of components and cameras in the system.
Also any upgrading recommendations will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
