I Got A New 4K Monitor Today

Getting ready for the new 4K cameras when the technology catches up. I have a 27" Dell with a 1080 format and it was pretty good. Anyways I want to install 3 LPR cameras and I am out of room with my two 8 channel NVR's. So I bought a Hikvision 4 channel NVR just for the new 3 LPR cameras that I will be installing.

Well, I decided to use the Dell monitor for the new Hikvision NVR and purchased a Samsung 28" 4k monitor for my main computer that I also have IVMS-4200 installed to watch over all my cameras. I have to say there is an improvement much to my surprise. I used the license plates on distantly parked cars for comparison. I can see the difference as some were questionable with the reading on the Dell but now they are clearer with the new 4K Samsung. :)

Here is a license plate picture with the current camera. I think there is enough light to use the 1/2000 shutter speed when I get the LPR camera in place. Now this Hikvision camera has the 1/1.8" sensor. By the way the lighting has to be ideal to get a shot of the plate like this. Let me also add that with the new 4K monitor things are a little clearer at night. It does make a difference even with 1080P cameras.

Okay here is the difference. Look at the "not a through street" sign in the upper middle of the picture. The 4K monitor on top and the 1080P monitor on the bottom. So even with 1080P cameras there is an advantage to using a 4K monitor.

If you zoom in on the image you wont see any more detail on a 4k then on a 1080p. What you are seeing is a distinctions between the monitors no 1080p vs 4k. A 4k monitor cannot generate more pixels.
 
No doubt you are correct and that is why I did not think there would be a difference. Maybe it is the way the two different monitors process the "information" which goes back to what you are saying. Whatever the reason the video is slightly better. This is a Hikvision camera with a 1/1.8" sensor for those that are interested.

Here is another comparison. The 1080P picture was not as bad as shown in the 2nd picture but there has been an improvement. Not quite sure the reason but this view is now clearer. Whatever, the move to a 4K monitor was a plus for me. 4K on top, 1080P on bottom.
