how to determine quality?

Hi,

so your going to shake your head at me but ive worked out the camers i have (IPC-HDW3849H-AS-PV) are rubbish at night, ive found the posts about them and realise I cannot change it
my question is how can I determine that my next camera will be resonable at night or in general
im looking at a few of these second hand Hikvision DS-2CD2385G1-I 8MP

is there a way to work out if its worth while as I did not do enough research on the first 2 cameras

Quit chasing MP for one thing! Chase sensor size.

If you want to stand any chance of low light performance (when most of us are concerned), you need to be on the ideal MP/sensor ratio, which is anything in green.

This chart was developed based on the collective input of many members here with real world experience with many/all of the different cameras out there.

You also will see a price correlation between those in red (cheaper) versus those in green (more expensive than those in red).

Generally the larger the sensor, the more light that can be captured per pixel.

Sure there are cheaper cameras than we recommend, but the perform poorly at night.

Doesn't do any good to have cameras if you cannot provide anything to the police other than what time it happened.

Weird but yes that is the image. Go with green if you care about night performance.
What do you think about 6MP and 1/1,8" sensor? Is it more "green" or "yellow"? I have just tested two cameras Dahua 3849h Pro and 3649h Pro. 8MP camera is much worse not only during night but also during a day. I decided to buy 6MP because 4MP version in my country is not available.

The 6MP would be better than the 8MP on the same sensor, but the 4MP would do the best.

Reach out to @EMPIRETECANDY here as he sells all over the world and probably has sold to your country.
