Summary

I have a Hikvision PTZ camera configured to record Event-only (Smart Event or Motion). It works correctly until any PTZ movement occurs (pan/tilt/zoom). Immediately after PTZ control is used, the camera starts recording Continuous and “sticks” in that mode, regardless of whether the trigger mode was Event or Motion. This happens when PTZ is operated via Web UI, iVMS-4200, or Hik-Connect.

Environment / Device info

  • Camera: Hikvision DS-2DE2A404IW-DE3
  • Firmware Version: V5.7.11 build 230612
  • Encoding Version: V7.3 build 220830
  • Web Version: V4.0.1.0 build 220706
  • Plugin Version: 3.0.8.7
  • Firmware Version Property: B-R-E7-0
  • Storage: microSDXC 256GB Kingston High Endurance UHS-I U1 A1
  • Recording location: local microSD (no NVR in this setup)
  • Clients used for PTZ control:
    • Web UI (browser + plugin)
    • iVMS-4200 (PC)
    • Hik-Connect (mobile)

Goal

Record to microSD only on events (Motion or Smart Events like Intrusion Detection), not 24/7 Continuous. PTZ should not permanently change the recording mode.

Problem statement

Once PTZ is operated (even briefly), recording flips to Continuous. From that timestamp forward, the timeline shows large Continuous blocks until I manually reconfigure record schedule back to Event/Motion (and even then the flip can happen again on the next PTZ action).

Steps to Reproduce (STR)

Case A — Smart Event → Event recording

  1. Log into camera Web UI.
  2. Configure a Smart Event:
    • Go to Event → Smart Event (tested primarily Intrusion Detection).
    • Enable the Smart Event.
    • Define Region/Area.
    • Set Arming Schedule to 24/7.
    • In Linkage Method, enable Trigger Recording (A1 is auto-selected).
    • Save.
  3. Configure recording schedule:
    • Go to Storage → Schedule Settings → Record Schedule.
    • Set schedule type to Event.
    • Paint 24/7 Event schedule for all days.
    • Save (UI confirms save).
  4. Confirm normal behavior:
    • Move an object/person/car in the scene → event recordings appear as expected.
    • Playback shows Event segments at the correct times.
  5. Trigger the bug: perform any PTZ movement:
    • Pan/tilt/zoom via Web UI OR iVMS-4200 OR Hik-Connect (any one is enough).
  6. Check playback timeline:
    • From the moment PTZ was used, recording becomes Continuous and stays that way.

Case B — Motion Detection → Motion recording

  1. Configure Motion Detection:
    • Go to Event → Basic Event → Motion Detection.
    • Enable Motion Detection.
    • Define Motion area.
    • Set Arming Schedule 24/7.
    • Linkage Method → Trigger Recording (A1 auto-selected).
    • Save.
  2. Configure recording schedule:
    • Go to Storage → Schedule Settings → Record Schedule.
    • Set schedule type to Motion.
    • Paint 24/7 Motion schedule.
    • Save.
  3. Confirm it records only on motion.
  4. Trigger the bug: do any PTZ movement from any client.
  5. Playback timeline shows switch to Continuous from PTZ timestamp onward.

Expected vs Actual

Expected

  • Camera continues recording based on Event or Motion schedule.
  • PTZ operations (manual pan/tilt/zoom) should not permanently force Continuous recording.
  • At most, PTZ might temporarily cause additional event triggers due to scene change, but recording mode should not switch to Continuous.

Actual

  • After any PTZ action, the camera starts recording Continuous.
  • This happens regardless of whether the record schedule is Event or Motion.
  • It occurs via Web UI, iVMS-4200, and Hik-Connect (so it’s not client-specific).
  • The switch is visible in playback timeline: a continuous block begins right after PTZ interaction time.

What I already checked / tried (to avoid obvious replies)

  • Factory reset (full reset) and full reconfiguration from scratch → issue persists.
  • Confirmed Enable Motion Detection in PTZ Control is OFF.
  • Checked PTZ Scheduled Tasks / patrol / presets automation → OFF.
  • Verified microSD is healthy and suitable (high endurance), overwrite enabled.
  • Tested both recording trigger styles (Motion and Smart Event) → both affected.
  • Firmware appears to be latest available via UI → still occurs.

Hypothesis / suspicion

This looks like firmware behavior/bug where manual PTZ operation triggers a “Manual/Command recording” state (or some internal “continuous while PTZ” logic) that does not revert to Event/Motion after PTZ stops.

Questions for experts

  1. Is there a known setting to prevent “continuous recording on PTZ operation” or to auto-revert back to Event/Motion?
  2. Is this related to any internal mode like Manual / Command recording, PTZ priority, or a hidden linkage?
  3. Any recommended firmware version (upgrade/downgrade) known to fix this on DS-2DE2A404IW-DE3?
  4. Is there a way to capture logs that show why the recording mode changes?

Logs / diagnostics needed (what I can provide)

Tell me what to export and from where. I can provide:
  • Configuration export (camera parameters dump)
  • System logs / operation logs (if the camera has them)
  • Event logs around the exact timestamp of PTZ operation
  • Playback timeline screenshots showing the switch point
  • Exact record schedule screenshots (Event/Motion blocks)
  • Any SDK/ISAPI query output if you tell me which endpoints/fields to check

If anyone can point me to the correct logs or the specific setting that causes this behavior, I’ll test immediately and report back.

Thanks in advance — this one’s driving me nuts.
