HDW5442TM-AS – Washed-out image with IVS on latest official FW – Is downgrade to SmartIR possible?

Ahh so it does.

I didnt turn off IVS at the Smart Plan level, merely disabled the rules.

yes it changed Shutter and Gain as well as Exposure Compensation, AND DNR
So now we know what changes.

Question is still WHY?
I see no scenario where thats beneficial

IVS Rules Off and it does change the settings.

I have the same situation on my HDBW5449R1-ZE-LED

Each smart plan (or all disabled) retains the exposure settings for each state.
You need to save exposure settings for each state.

It can be useful to have different exposure settings depending on the smart plan.
Yep, I expected the same on my 5442TM-AS (3.6 mm) — but only when using specific SmartIR firmware.

Yesterday I downgraded through several firmware versions, from
V2.840.0000000.30.R.250227 down to .25.
Of course, I followed best practice and did the 3× factory reset before and after each downgrade.

All of these official firmware versions behaved the same way:

  • when IVS rules were enabled, the image became much darker
  • the edges were heavily washed out — you can see this clearly in the image from my first post: the brick pattern in front of the garage door is completely blurred
  • exposure mode automatically switched to Shutter Priority
  • after that, I had to manually readjust my exposure settings again

The last firmware I tried was Andy’s SmartIR version.
After installing that one, everything worked correctly again.
The only thing I noticed — as laursc mentioned — is that each Smart Plan seems to have its own exposure settings, but I’m fine with that.

Please also note that everything I’ve described applies specifically to the 5442TM-AS (3.6 mm) model.
On the screenshots some of you posted, I can see the newer web interface, which means those are likely different (newer) series.
There may still be similarities with this issue — and I can see that there are — but for example, I don’t see washed-out edges on your models, while mine shows very strong edge blur.

Obviously they changed how various settings react to try to achieve the same effect of brightness with IVS Off. The changes it makes on tithe 3x49 are shown and described in my last post above.

But yes it effects at least these 3 series that I show and have proven.

5x59
3x49

Likely other series use the same formula
