Drive Overallocated

Been running an 8Tb WD Purple for about a year with no issues. All of a sudden BI is saying I have "Drives Overallocated". Disk manager shows 7400Gb usable and healthy, and have had BI recording up to 7200GB (New) and 50GB(Alerts). The E: drive at the bottom of BI camera window showed -514.6GB so I changed my (New) folder to 6900GB and ran another DB repair it now shows E: -214.6Gb. Why all of a sudden is there not room on the drive and why would I need to lower the capacity another 200GB.

Best practice is to keep 10% of the drive available for windows to do its thing, so a 7400GB usable should change it down to say 6600 NEW and 50 Alerts.

That would correspond to what your overage is as well.

Also make sure that you don't have system restore enabled on the drive.

So I deleted a bunch of old video from the drive manually and lowered the total storage to 6600 and 50, ran a DB repair, and restarted BI and the red over allocated bar just keeps increasing as I lower the total drive storage amount. My DB is on my C drive, the E drive is only used for footage. Drive.jpg

Are you closing all of the settings windows? Every time I slip up and leave one open, BI overallocates.

What do you mean by that? I only ever see one open at a time.

Well update.....I updated to the one pushed out on 08.28. Compact and re-indexed the drive and it has seemed to fix the issue.

Thanks for the help everyone

For at least the BI version I run, if I leave any settings window open, walk away and forget about it, my storage drive will be overallocated in a day or so. I've done it a bunch of times and can't seem to learn :-)
