Dahua SD42212S-HN PTZ sporadically connect problem - replace all capacitors?

My 2 year old Dahua SD42212-HN has recently had constant disconnect and reconnect issues. I've tried everything including different cat5 cables and even tried powered with 24VAC with same results (indoors and outdoors).
I suspect it's heat related since problem is more severe in hotter weather and I'm in the process of replacing all the capacitors on the board.

Do anyone else have issues with these series of cameras?

i had mine sporadically reconnect last summer, but its been powered by 24vac the entire time.. when I replaced the cheap ass power supply the camera came with the issue went away..

it has a cooling fan inside IIRC, is that still spinning freely? if it threw a bearing and locked up I could see it overheating.

Yes fan is still good. Had it running with poe+ and tried 24VAC and another poe+ switch with same results. Replaced 3 caps so far ( 2 main and 1 that had some white stuff on top) and still no good.

I take it your seeing full resets where it does the calibration dance, hence why you went straight towards power issue right? If its dropping out without resetting we'd be going down the wrong path here.

This camera should have thermal overload protection, as evidence by the fact it knows and monitors the internal temps.. you might turn on the temp osd and monitor how hot it is inside when it resets, perhaps you can add some heatsinks to a few of the hottest chips and that will help with overheating.

You got a good point. When video was lost, camera was still running as I have it next to computer now. Power was never lost so maybe it isn't the caps and they weren't swollen. There are 2 main caps and 6 other smaller cap. 2 of the smaller caps are use for the 2 ptz motors.

Wonder where are the overload protection so I can bypass that? Where is the temp OSD turned on from?

thermal overload would trigger a shutdown and reset, so thats not happening either.. looks like a network problem, perhaps the cpu is overloading and locking up periodically.. you might try a full reset to defaults next.. Ive managed to do something simuliar when I cranked the output up so high it started bottlenecking somewhere internally.. does your PTZ lag at all to commands? thats usually a sign that its operating at a high load. it has a hardware watchdog and if it locks up long enough it should do a full reset.

I presume you are testing it on a bench now with another network cable.. so the cabling is unlikely to be a culprit at this time.

the Temp OSD is in the overlay section in the config, where you adjust the timestamp location, etc.

Cpu load only 20% with 8 other Hikvision 3MP working with no issues or dropouts. Tried the full reset to default already and PTZ was working with no issues until about 2-3 months ago. PTZ does not lag at all when working - when it lags badly during movement, then I know it's about to dropout.

I have it testing on bench now next to computer with another 24VAC 2AMP power supply - same results.

im talking about locally on the your camera, the processor in the camera its self.. not your NVR.

if moving the PTZ is laggy, that means the camera's cpu is at high load and choking down.. try disabling any streams your not using, cut back the bitrate on the streams you do use, and tweak any post processing features (WDR/3DNR/etc).. I like the scorched earth method, dialing everything down and tuning it up until there is a noticeable lag in the ptz using a mouse to control it.

I cant run my PTZ at max quality with all features enabled, it starts choking internally..

Still the same after dialing everything down to lowest setting. Funny thing is that I still have control of the ptz (through ONVIF in Geo software) but just no picture.

can you try opening the rtsp stream with vlc on another machine and see if it also looses video feed? mebe try the substream

Still no go. Tried it on Geo software and on IE with video loss on both main stream and sub stream.

All the boards look good with no obvious damage anywhere but I'm still guessing it's a hardware and not software issue.

does it give a video error, black screen, noise? mebe try mjpeg or a jpeg snapshot when its not showing video and see if it gives you an image.

It gives "video lost" on Geo software and "can't connect" or something like like that on IE. Will take a picture when bad again as camera has been good for past 2 hrs.

That's the first thing I tried. Tried with 2 different poe+ switches and 2 different 24VAC plug in transformers.

nayr, how long have you had your camera and is it mounted indoor or out? You always powered with 24VAC correct?
Mine has always been powered with poe+ switch and is actually a oem (no Dahua logo) unit.

I actually have the big black face, but its very simuliar in features and hardware to yours.. IIRC it was the same camera hardware with more zoom and IR.

Ordered mine on July 28th 2014 from Wrightwood and its been outdoors on a south western corner about 18' in the air.
