Camera placement under deck

I have a walkout basement and a deck is being installed. One of the cameras under the deck has a column being built right at the wire exit point. The plan is to route this wire through the deck column.

The column is in contact with the back of the home. I'm trying to figure out which "face" of the column to route the wire through. If you are facing the deck, I was thinking either the left face of the column or straight through the column (blue arrows below).

Any thoughts? Moving the wire after the deck goes up won't be possible.

What are the dimensions of the column?

My initial thought is straight through, with the camera mounted on the face parallel to the brick.

Hmm... you plan on putting a box over the cable/hole as it exits the deck column? A box on the left face would make it a bit less visible from off the deck, and it might allow more convenience if running conduit/cable on the underside of the deck to either the left edge of deck or the edge furthest from the building.

The right sized box would also allow you future growth by providing a physical space to put a splitter into and add a second camera if pulling a second/third cable is too difficult

I'm estimating the columns will be 2 feet x 2 feet.

Here is a schematic drawing of the deck. I'm thinking running the wire straight through may not be the best because the stairs in front of the back right column (circled in red) will obstruct the view.

I had not thought of that yet. Good idea!

Your best bet may then be to do as Spaceman suggested and terminate into a junction box, then run conduit to install locations from there. If you only have one shot at this, I would run 3 or 4 cables, ideally in conduit through the post/column.

When I finished my deck I built a chase from the house out to the end of the deck. It was 120VAC, switched 120VAC for a lamp over the grill, natural gas line, 12VDC, camera POE wires and speaker cable for outdoor speakers.

The chase was a bit hidden with cross support beams. coming right out of the house. I did not go close to the deck column(s).
