Hello,

what windows file operation Blue Iris is using when moving recording to a new folder?

My folder for "New" and "Stored" are on the same hard drive. When I use the move command under windows, moving a file only will change the directory entry without need to re-write the complete file. How Blue Iris is moving the files, when the two folders are on the same drive.

I am asking because since two days, there are heavy disk operation ongoing on my BI machine and I do not know what is going on? Maintenance of BI? Maintenance of Windows? The disk exclusively is used by the Windows VM and BI.

Moving files in BI is not recommended. Per @SouthernYankee's Standard Allocation Post :....."If New and stored are on the same disk drive do not used stored, set the stored size to zero, set the new folder to delete, not move. All it does is waste CPU time and increase the number of disk writes. You can leave the stored folder on the drive just do not use it."

Thank you.
This is a recommendation what to do. But it does not answer my question what Blue Iris internally is doing. A move command under windows on the same drive would not utilize CPU and disk writes in a noticable way.

You would need to ask Blue Iris support.

To determine what is doing all the disk IO you see in your proxmox graph, open Task Manager within Windows and look at the Processes tab, or open Resource Monitor and look at the Disk tab.
