BlueIris - Continuous Record on main stream but flag events/motion/triggers on timeline

Hello all - hoping the experts on BI can chime in on this as I'm pondering purchasing a license to give a whirl. Currently using the demo and watching videos/reading the help while I learn it but still unsure on something I'm trying to implement if its doable. Coming from another system (Milestone XProtect) that allows me to do continuous recording on the main channel but also mark on the timeline for motion/triggers.

I've found that I can do that with Sub+Trigger but I'm not able to find how to do that with a continuous main stream (only a sub) - is this doable in BI and if so, how would I go about it? I thought maybe leaving record on continuous but still enabling the triggers and such maybe would mark the timeline but it doesn't seem to do so.

I'm fully aware of the processing and storage requirements with regards to saving the main stream versus sub but storage is of no concern nor is processing power -

Any thoughts or expertise on the config side would be much appreciated!

I'm relatively new here, but it seems to me you could just setup the video feed to read the main feed as the sub feed, so just have two main feeds with one being marked as the sub. And then do continuous sub + alert.

You might run into some bandwidth or space problems, the reason people record sub and not main feed.

If you want to see mainstream during playback whether there is a trigger or alert or not, then you need to record as continuous.

Cont+trigger will record substream until triggered then switch to mainstream during the event and then switch back to substream.

Cont+Alert will record substream until alter then switch to mainstream during the event and then switch back to substream.

Keep in mind running 24/7 continuous take a lot more memory than running cont+trig or alert.

You could up the bitrate of the substream D1 resolution quite a bit and not miss too much and get more recording time.

Yeah that is what I am seeing in my tests and reading/watching the training but I'm trying to replicate what I've got in Milestone which is record continuous at mainstream, then mark on timeline for activity/motion/triggers.

The equipment I'm using for this will be handle the load (Dual socket 28C R750, 256Gb memory and 70TB~ of storage) so resources are not an issue, for me its just trying to get the settings to let me achieve what I'm after.

@ipcamwalt This is a great idea actually, I'll see if I can't make it think the main feed is the sub.
